I need help ASAP

My buddy came over driving his 1989 XJ, and when he got here his ignition would not turn off...... the key is stuck in the ignition, and the jeep was running (until i pulled the plug wire so it would die). However, his battery is running down as we speak because we can't get the ignition to turn off, and can't get the key out of the ignition. I tried turning the wheel several times, running it through the gears back to park several times, still nothing.
 
you could disconnect the battery till you get the problem fixed
 
Yeah thats the plan for now, but I gotta figure out what the problem is.
 
Thought the problem was that the key was stuck?
 
Yeah the ignition is stuck in the ON position, thats the problem.
 
Just givin you a hard time. :D
 
probably gonna be the lock cylinder.
 
You know how to remove it?
