Help Please

Ok, my brother has a 98 xj and has been having problems with his dash lights not coming on, his airbag light is on, and his horn doesnt even work. Now apparently his headlights dont even turn on.

We have pulled the gauge pod out to clean the terminals, but that didnt work. I have looked at the light switch and suspect a possible problem with that.

But my question is; what can cause all that to go out over a one to two month period of time?????

Any idea or thing I can check it will help me lots.

if the dash lights dont come on, does his parking/running lamps turn on? if not check the fuse, if they do its most likely the headlight switch. have you checked all the fuses? there may be a short near the fuse box causing them to blow and give the headache you are experienceing.

I have yet to be able to check to see if his running lights come on. He says he has some fuses that he will need to replace, but I dont think they are for the lighting system.

Check the fuse box under the hood as well, not just the ones (the fuses) under the dash. Headlights and such are with the relays... (at least on my '93)
