Cooper Discoverer AT vs BFG AT KO

I'm trying to decide between these tires. I like the design of the Cooper more, and it's better in mud... But almost all my driving is on the highway until I move out of Houston and to someplace with a lot of public land and can also live close to work (hopefully Pac NW). So noise is a concern, and I'm concerned about the Coopers' noise level. But I have no idea how much louder it is than the BFG AT. I bought my XJ with worn out 235/75 BFG ATs, and I like how quiet they are. Does anyone have experience with both?

Edit: Getting 31x10.5x15 btw, with 2" OME springs.

I found some other discussions, mostly on Australian forums. Their driving conditions are really different though.. They seem to spend a lot of time driving on dirt roads in the outback.

it cant be that loud, my 2 cents... if your doing any mud or CLAY do the cooper. if you're interested in nice Highway tires you really cant go wrong with the BFG ATs. thats what I'm on and I have a set of 32s ready for when these go.

My WJ, which is now my dad's, has Grabber AT2s. They are great offroad, but too noisy on the highway. That's why I'm concerned about the Coopers being too loud.

The AT2s look similar at first glance but the lugs are a lot smaller and don't really interlock like the C shaped ones on the BFG

hmmm. Thats weird I put 58000 miles on my Discoverer A/T's and they are still at 5/32. I did replace them due to a near bear, Jeep collision. They had a flat spot on the two fronts from that stop on. Was doing around 65 and mashed the pedal.

my coopers always held up well past 45-50k also. i had cooper stt's on a 4runner with 20k on them and you couldnt tell they werent brand new still. i have also had bfg mud and all terrains and they alway hold up good also.

FWIW, I have Dakota M/Ts made by cooper, and they still look brand new after 30k miles. I love them and bought an almost new replacement set already because I got them for a song.

i had coopers on my jeep and went like 60000 ish miles and when i sold my rims with em still on, the guy who got em still drives with em.

I almost bought Cooper Discoverers a few months ago until I saw this below. I had BFG's but wanted to try something different that was a quieter ride on the highway without spending an arm and a leg on a 12 year old vehicle. I've been very happy with the TOYO's I ended up with although its a firmer ride. They feel like the sidewall is stiffer but i don't claim to ba an expert.

That was an old issue that had to do with a bad stock of materials they received for the metal belts that were not protected properly against corrosion. It has not happened again since that recall, so I would not worry about it any more than I would worry about a BFG malfunctioning.
