"It,s only a copule of bolts 3 sensors a clamp and the throttle& trans cables,10 min job" Yeah Right!!!!!
Orginal body on 96,donor a 98,both OBDII should be the same sensors, NO.Had the 98 body bored and a spacer made by the machinest at work, reinstalled the 98 sensors and was all ready for the "10 min "switch.
NOT--pulled the 96 off and installed the bored 98 and spacer went to plug in sensors--they dont fit the plug configuration was changed on the TPS and MAP sensors--pulled 98 off removed 98 sensors.Tried to remove the TPS sensor from the 96 body stripped splines out of Torx bolts, tried to drill,No.bolt harder than He!! ,cut off wheel in Dremel tool and then a stone finally removed the TPS ,installed on 98 body .MAP sensor next, the bolts were different between the 96 and 98,sensor mount is different, used 96 bolts on 96 sensor.Bolted TB down, attached the cables(with no problem)attached battery cables and started it up.
So far it is running OK.
Oh,now it has started to rain,What a way to start a vacation
Have a Good Labor Day

If there's one thing i've learned working on cars and trucks, it's that few things are actually a 10 minute job (unless you're rushing/half-assing it).

This is aggravates me about owning a '96.

Half the stuff is pre-97 and half is post...

Now, I always take the part I want to replace with me to the parts counter so I know I'm getting the right thing.

When you get to be an old fart, say about 30ish that 'take it with you' will be ingrained...one of the nice things about having two jeeps, I've generally always got a parts runner... I can't count the amount of times I've told my son 'take it with you', he finally got it after maybe 30 times when we rebuilt his TJ..

For my birthday the wife gave me an AARP card, must be the althimerz starting.I usually plan these things right down to the last nut and bolt. But I did learn the TB sensors do not have seperate gaskets. If you tear a gasket you need to buy a new part to get a new gasket, whats up with that ?

Thats interesting, need to remember to take a tracing next time for future use. I do that once in a while when I remember, got a stack squirreled away over the years, then if I mess one up like I did with the water pump I can trace and cut one out of gasket stock in a pinch.
