I am currently running 33x12.5 BFG M/T's and have not used them in the winter yet but have heard nothing but horror stories about how they perform on packed smow or ice. apperently th nubbies freeze righ up and you have no stopping power and little or no turning ability. so anyways, I'm going to upgrade to a 35x12.5" tire and am looking for a mud tire that will be safer in the winter(maybe even studdable if possible). also i'm looking for something that has some of the same characteristics as the bfg m/t(tread life, not that noisy on the highway, not bad comfort on roads) any suggestions?
so far i have seen these:

Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ Radial

I'm sure some of the ones i have listed above may not be any good, I have no idea, I'm just looking for your opinions based on your own experience. Thanks alot guys.:eeks1:

Clearly it depends on what surface you'll offroading, but in my honest opinion for serious offroad there is only a tyre: SIEMEX CENTIPEDE or EXTREME TREKKER.

If suitable, with beadlocks rings. No other.

From what I've read, Simex tires are hard to get in the states, I don't know if it's the same in Canada. The Interco TRXUS MT is a very good mud/snow tire by all accounts. I've seen them work extremely well in both conditions.

I use the Mickey Thompson MTZ's (33/12.5/15) and have no problem with them in the winter snow, think of them like the BFG MT's only Siped for better traction

If you don't mind a slightly harsh road ride and can air down to 3-4 psi for the snow, the Interco TSL SX is also a very good tire for both surfaces.

look at the cooper discoverry stt's. they do great in the snow and ice. i actually had alot of fun last winter playing in the streets and parking lots, never even thought about sliding or getting stuck.

Been damb happy with the stt's so far, heard good things about them for winter use, thats why I bought them

I'll 2nd the Maxxis Bighorns. I've got them on my DD and love them.

I recently put a set of these on, good street manners and should be as good as any BFG Mud Terrain clone tire. Cheap, and lots of good mileage reviews, I paid ~150 each for 4 33x12.50R15. Plus they are pinned for studs. No winter experience yet.

Note that they look better in a wider size.

I have some Mickey Thompson Baja Claw Radial and they slide on the street when the roads are wet from the rain when I brake. And they are loud tire.
I'm going to go with trxus mt when I need new tires.

I wanted to try Green Diamond Icelander C/T last winter for our JK but I couldn't find any locally the right size. It seems that although the tire uses proven technology, it doesn't seem to be catching on in sufficent volume. A number of European manufacturers have completely stopped making them. I just looked at the US website and it seems that the entire C/T range has been discontinued leaving just A/T and M/T up to 32".

FWIW, I paid ~$130 per tire, including shipping.
