Just where do your tax dollars go? To pay the wages of some government worker sitting in a cubical somewhere, who spends the vast majority of his day networking with other office drones, promoting him (or her) self and trying to take their carrier to the next level, so they have more time and opportunity to promote themselves and figure out more ways to advance there carrier. The carrier is what they do for a living, they don't actually produce anything.
Or sending your taxes overseas to help the disadvantaged, the relief is mostly stolen by the government who is supposed to be helping there own citizens.
Or paying some contractor outrageous amounts of money for substandard product and productivity.
The list goes on, some immigrant tapping the programs *offered* to them is pretty far down on the list of waste and poorly spent tax dollars.
People really don't get it, a bureaucrats status is determined by the amount of their budget. They dream up ways to spend it, the more the better for them. Joe taxpayer has been brainwashed into thinking it's the recipients fault, because they don't say no. Would you say no if somebody offered you a benefit? As a matter of fact, a very small portion of the budget actually ever finds it's way to the people who need or even want the support.
The majority of the people riding the gravy train are those who have figured out how to milk it. Who has the time for all the research? Somebody who is living hand to mouth or somebody with an education and a lot of free time on their hands? Semi professional freeloaders. The amount of fraud in the system is outrageous, Joe immigrant gets the blame.
Try working in Government for awhile, so you can see first hand just where your tax dollars actually go.
I've got no problem paying as few taxes as humanly possible. Chances are I'll ever see any return, even if fate deals me a rotten hand and I really need the help.
For every ten people in government, you actually have one that is doing anything worthwhile and they are often so busy, they don't have the time to affect any positive change. The inmates are running the asylum.
Do you know why the vast majority of people who oppose benefits to immigrants. feel the way they do? Most is simple jealousy, it eats their arse to see anybody get something they don't. I call it the Sea Gull mentality. Why do you hate Sea Gulls? Because they beat you to the garbage dump every morning.

Dude, STFU and crawl back under the rock you came out from under. This wasn't even close to 'just joking around'.
Since he became a citizen, he's been a legal resident the entire time. Which means he's been paying taxes and working just like the rest of us.

RNMedic, congrats! Good to have you.
McRaindog, if it was truly just a joke and you're not just backpedaling, it was a bad joke. Think before you post...as Matthew already said, based on his name, he likely has insurance (probably better than yours or mine) and as an RN he probably makes more than either of us. I have a problem with illegals also, but nothing here suggests illegal...

A Briton? What was it that brought you here initially (that fell through?)
And another curious question - did you retain your British citizenship as well, and are now a 'dual citizen', or are you now strictly an American? I've always wondered how something like that would work - and it seems that I should ask you (I tend to see three countries listed with "dual citizenships" the most - Canada, Israel, and the UK. So, you're the first person who might be able to answer...)

The State department now has a don't ask don't tell type of policy. UK accepts Dual-citizenship. So the US state dept require when I travel out of or into the US I use the US passport, beyond that I can use the UK one if I chose. Well at least you got one thing right. Our hospitals are chock full of people who have escaped shit-care-for-everybody to get good care where they can get it.

We take in more immigrants every year than the rest of the world combined. They don't come for what our govt will do for them, but for what our gov't doesn't do to them. Keep working on changing that... you da man.
