I haven't seen this posted here, and I'm surprised.
I saw a news story the other day about a guy that says he has modified an internal combustion engine to get 110 miles to the gallon.
He wouldn't show the modifications, because he is waiting on patent approvals.
Here are some of the quotes from various articles on the Internet.
"Pelmear, who lives in Napoleon, Ohio, has tweaked his Mustang to get 110 mpg, making the engine nearly five times as efficient as a traditional gas engine"
"We redesigned a lot of different things on the [engine] block"
"It's still a rod-and-piston engine; it just has a lot more electronics on it."
"Traditional gas engines operate at 8 to 10 percent, efficiency, while the engine on the Mustang, he said, is at 38 percent efficiency."
"Pelmear entered his car to win the the $10 million Progressive Automotive X Prize: a race to find an affordable, marketable automobile that gets at least 100 miles per gallon."
"it's 400 horse and has 500 foot pounds of torque off the line, zero to 60 in three seconds."
"Pelmear won't show us under the hood. Some of his gizmos are still awaiting patents. But the secret lies in making engines more efficient. And with a little more work, developers believe they'll be getting 500 miles to the gallon and revolutionizing the auto industry."
Don't sell your XJ yet boys!
BTW, at 110 miles to a gallon that 20 gallon tank would last... 1,980 miles. At 500 miles to the gallon it would last... 9000 miles. So for me I'd fill up in January and then again ahhhh in November? lol
This wouldn't happen over night, but as people transitioned to these higher miles per gallon engines the prices for gas should drop, based on the speculators and demand dropping.
