No offence Dan but I think I wouldn't fit in too good with the Union crowd.
I have put lots of thought into it. Plus I need a 60K income right off the bat to pay bills. Starting all over at the bottom would put us into a serious world of hurt.

Honestly having time to do things is worth way more then benifits or money. I couldn't live my life always on call. It works for some people but not me.

Your TJ is fine. How many rigs do you have?
I got confirmation in the mail, we have Dollhouse #3 reserved for the nights of Oct. 1&2, Sunday and Monday. Saturday will be a travel day for us, let's plan on making camp together somewhere along Poison Spring Canyon before the Dirty Devil crosssing Saturday night. I went in that road to the Dirty Devil last year, the only place I remember that we could all fit is at this spot 11.8 miles from highway 95:
http://www.fototime.com/8A8FB9A1E5BFE51/orig.jpg
I really don't expect anyone else to be in that canyon so we can holler on the CB, look for each other and figure out camping arrangements when we get there.
The Dirty Devil shouldn't be very high this year. Jared, can you see how current CFM rates compare to when I was there last on 5/23/05? I tried that website and couldn't figure out how.
Trip details:
Sunday and Monday we will hike/drive the trails in the Maze area, depending on your interest. I would like to through-hike the Maze or Fins area, maybe some of the drivers can do a hiker shuttle? Tuesday drive over to Horseshoe Canyon and camp at the BLM campsite just outside. Wednesday, drive to Moab, hitting trails of opportunity on the way.
This area is a long way from gas stations, I recommend bringing along 25-30 gallons of gas, especially if you would like to do some exploring along the way.
There is no water there either, bring all you will need for 4 days or plan on hiking to nearby springs and filtering water for drinking use.
NPS regulations for the area require us to have a protable toilet system, does anyone have one? This might be worthwhile for the IC to purchase for club use.
Camping and reservation fees are $60 for the 2 nights. That gives us access for 3 vehicles and 9 people... We are also required to pick up the permit at the Hans Flat ranger station the day before or day of the trip. I will try to get it on Saturday on the way there to save us having to drive all of the way there on Sunday.
That's all I can think of now, anybody have other ideas or suggestions?

I kind of figured that we would have more vehicles than the limit- I don't know how often the rangers go into the backcountry.
Ryan- the other 2 sites at Dollhouse were available for the night of Oct. 1, do you want to reserve that one and leave for Moab a day earlier?
The ranger station phone # is (435) 259-4351 if you want to check current status of those sites.

No actually it's ok. The closer Fall Fling gets the more I realize that I have a lot to do and don't even know if I could make it anyway.
Go with the plans you made and I will bag it for this year. That way I can concentrate more on Fall Fling.

So I'm thinking about going down late friday night and camping somewhere off of hwy 95. The 4wd adventures Utah book lists a couple trails in the area Id like to explore Saturday morning, then going up Poison Springs Canyon a little later on. Trail #20 Robbers Roost Spring Trail, or more likely Trail #21 Burr Point Trail, overlooks the canyon we will be traveling and the Dirty Devil R. Also have half a mind to make a loop out of the Wild Horse Mesa trail #17and Highway 24 Saturday morning before Poison Springs.

I talked to Bill today, he isn't going to make it due to health reasons. :(
I ordered a PETT toilet, it should show up this week. I am planning on bringing an extra 10 gallons of gas and may need it just meeting you guys- I am going to the Hans Flat ranger station Saturday to pick up our camping permit and then driving back down to Poison Spring Canyon to meet you guys. I may try fording the Dirty Devil to meet you as it is 50 miles shorter than going back around through Hanksville.
Would you guys consider meeting and setting up camp on BLM land near the Hans Flat Ranger station Saturday night? How about at the BLM camping area on the Hanksville side of Horshoe Canyon? Either of those would make for less driving around for me, but I am not too sure where we would camp as I have never been to either of those places before.

I like that idea of Hanksville (or west) side of horseshoe canyon to meet and camp Saturday, It's easy to find in the dark and get to from the ranger station. don't have to worry about where we are all going to meet.
then drive in through Poison Springs on Sunday morning after topping off in Hanksville....

Ok, let's change the meeting place. It's still Saturday night but at the Hanksville side of Horsehoe Canyon. Print out this map, look for the campsite in the upper left corner, that is where we will meet:
http://www.nps.gov/cany/planyourvisit/upload/maze_web.pdf
The approximate GPS coordinates for the camping area are N38* 28.489; W110* 12.043. I suggest finding the route there on a bigger map before you go as that is still in the boonies. Jared, Rick, Bryon, does this sound good? Sunday morning we'll head to Poison Springs Canyon via Hanksville where we will hopefully find a gas station.

Rick, I think plastic gas cans on the roof will be fine. I have had 10 gallons in NATO cans inside my Jeep for the past week and haven't whiffed any gas, I love those things!
We will figure out which way to head to Moab once we get out there. One possibility heading towards Blanding would be to do Blue Notch Pass/Red Canyon/Piute Pass and camp at Lake Powell in between...

Sounds like a great trip. If possible, I would like to tag along with the group. These are my tentative plans: Leave SLC early Saturday AM. Arrive at Horseshoe Canyon trail head mid day. Hike down to the canyon bottom to view the prehistoric Indian rock art, which has some of the finest displays of pictographs in the country. I've been down there several times before and would highly recommend hiking down if your interested in that sort of thing. Round trip is approx. 6.5 miles, with an elevation change of about 850 feet and takes 3 to 4 hours including view time.
Over night at the trail head. A permit is not required.
Sunday AM, travel to Hans Flat ranger station and see if I can get a "walk-in" permit to camp in the Maze District. The Doll House campsite is the end the road. There is a "so called" hiking trail from there down to the Colorado River.
If I can't get a camping permit, I'll go down the Flint Trail, and head for Hite.
Alex, I think I went up The Moab Rim trail with you, and several others last year.

For someone who works on a computer...you would think he would have a handle on this stuff by now.

Hey Alex, looks like your influence is rubbing off on me. Yesterday I got around to finding out what was making all the noise after Poison Spider and found this!

That sounds like an apt name! I ended up ordering another leaf spring, the side with the new one now sits about 2 inches higher than the other side.
BTW, did you pull your brake drums? I am now into it for new shoes, 2 new drums and wheel cylinders. It was a royal mess in there!

I didn't dare, only want to learn of one problem at a time :D I'm afraid of the same thing you got with the new leaf, uneven ride hight, when it brakes upgrade is what I always say so now I have to put some money where my mouth has been. I'm debating but I think OME JC1B springs and removing the blocks would give me the same lift and simular ride quality.

Yeah, I got some nice beefy 9/16 u-bolts to put in there too.
How hard is it to put discs on a Dana 44? It was $135 for complete new drum brakes but the backing plates and hardware that didn't come in the kit is nasty rusty.
