I have the following rings:

Which one is the top ( compression ) and which one is the other one ( Middle)?

The difference is .125 of an inch closer gap. I would think the one with the wider gap would go in the middle and the tighter closer gap would be the comp. ring.

Please help this is holding up my build.

Thanks

Edit: I am stoking this motor so I figured it belongs here.

If there's no literature with the rings (which I find mildly surprising...) I'd think the larger gap would actually go up top. Why? Because that ring will get hotter.

What happens when something gets hotter? It expands. More heat, more expansion.

"Ring bind" from the ring end gap being too small for the heat will rapidly wreck an engine block...

But, failing that, I'd ask the manufacturer if you didn't get a note in the box, or check the site or catalogue.

I cant tell from the picture but look at the profile of the ring. one of the corners should be knocked off if not one on each ring. If it is just on one that is the top ring and the shaved corner goes up.

If they both have one then you will have to find the box. When you buy piston rings they are separated out so you do not have to do this. A lot of people dump the box out on the ground as soon as they get it to start working then it is hard to figure out which ring you have. I used to work parts and saw every other set come back in.

Dots normally go on the top- but why are the gaps different by 1/8 inch? Something's not right. Read the info with the rings, they should provide a gap spec or there's a formula for gap per inch of bore size.
