Get time to look at the pile of BadCopped XJ that I've brought home and determine how big a can of worms I have opened. All you guys that are praying should be praying for me!

Jared:patriot:

Well, I got my 10" rear lift put together yesterday. Both of the front leaf spring bolts had been trashed, and the captive nuts removed. Apparently Badcop had used standard (as in not metric) bolts threaded into 14mm nuts and "tightened" them onto the gap where the captive nuts had once been. That only took about 2 hours to remove and repair. I'm hoping that's all he got his ghettofabulous hands on. The lift is ugly tall and stiff, as in I think I could fit 37's. That should match up super with my D35. I'm pretty sure my rear driveline is binding at rest height. Plus, there's a spare door and a Chrysler 8.25" axle in the back, so it might even end up taller. Maybe I'll just clearance the yoke with a bench grinder...

Now to fire up the DA sander and buy me a couple quarts of cheapo Rust-Oleum protective enamel in Gloss Orange and make it pretty.

How's wheeling doorless in an XJ?

Decided "screw this freaking Badcopped cherokee..."

1) I just built a D30 for the TJ last night... had to transplant a donor lower control arm mount. Installed Quick-Lock, 4.10's, fully disassembled the axle and checked it out. Ready to bolt into the TJ.

2) I need to install my thick style Yukon 4.10's in the D44 rear. Not really looking forward to setting up another stupid Dana axle with their oh-so-stupid pressed on carrier bearings. Anybody have a set of setup bearings I could borrow?

3) Have new rock rails that need to be installed. Bought them with no instructions or hardware...

4) I still need to get the CB installed. It's been sitting on a shelf in the garage since I sold the '88 XJ.

Well, I got both axles in with the 4.10's and finally had the chance to back it out of the driveway. Made it about 2 feet before I heard the first BANG from the front axle. Apparently the front Quick-Lok is binding up and won't ratchet freely. So I guess I get to yet again jack it up, remove the unit bearings, remove the axleshafts, remove the diff cover, drain the gear oil, remove the carrier, remove the ring gear, see what's going on in there, then do it all again in reverse. Pray for me. I really needed this time to be installing the rock rails, lights, and CB. It wouldn't be bad to have some time to drive it around locally before I hook up my trailer and drive it down to Moab to be abused on the trail for a solid week. This sucks.

You know, I don't mind things breaking down on the TJ now and then. It's to be expected. I just hate when 5 different major things break down within 10 days of the largest off-roading trip I will be doing this year.

By the way, how difficult is replacing the transfer case chain and where do I get one now or sooner? Don't ask why.

have you ever done an SYE? If so you can replace the chain.

If not...go to Tom Woods website and get the PDF file to instal a SYE. It will give you step by step directions. You don't even need to pull the case all the way out.

You can check with Dave down at Cutrubus or get one from Crown as for doing it you just need a good set of snap ring pliers and a socket set it's real easy take off the tail cone and rear output shaft then you can split the case and replace the chain i can do one in less than an hour now.

Well, the locker is a lost cause. I've installed it with both thrust washers, one washer, and no washers. It still sounds terrible. I looked up the factory specs and set it up within 0.003" of exact desired clearance and it still pops, jerks, bangs, binds and self destructs. I must have an out-of-spec carrier. It worked flawlessly in the D30 from my XJ, quiet and smooth. This is the 4th time in a week I've had the axle completely disassembled (shafts out, carrier out) in 5 days. This locker can go to hell.

So I'm not leading Pritchett with both diffs basically open. Still in for Behind the Rocks. That is all.

All 4 springs look great. They are the single springs, not the type with the reverse coil, smaller springs inside the normal springs. None of them are bent or anything wierd. They are the same springs that I was using it with in the XJ. It's just killing me that it worked so perfectly in the other axlehousing with an identical setup.

That being said - if anybody is amazing with lunchbox lockers please feel free to help me out tomorrow afternoon. I'll either be putting it together with help, or just putting the spiders back in. I've just had enough with it.

Then that is the problem...I am betting a hundred bucks on it.

Here is the story...when I bought my locker it came with single springs. I put it together and it was doing EXAXTLY what you said yours was doing. When I took it apart the springs and pins were messed up. I ordered a new spring kit with pins and the new kit came with the double spring inside of spring setup.

Put them in and never had another problem with it.

a good amount of front trimming is required for TJ flares. i just did mine. i did the fold method on the rear and mounted them right under the rear doors with some self tapping bolts. the front was the easiest for me. i just put the flares where i wanted and traced the inside where to cut. of course i ripped out the splash guard then for astetics spraybombed the wheel well black.

Now that the jeep is put back together I need to work on the driveline vibs. Where do you get degree shims same day and on Saturday?
I may not get time to measure the angles correctly until after 5:00 PM today.

The list is getting short. That is a good thing because the time is getting shorter. :repair:

Hey Dave, what tires did you end up with?

Hey Dave, what tires did you end up with?
I get to demo some 33" on this trip. A really good guy let me borrow a set of 33x12.50s.
They are worn and do not have a very agressive shoulder so I can run them with minimal trimming. They were smaller that the MTR 33x12.50 spare I got from Jeremy.
My control arms are a bit short. The tire sits back in the wheel well. Once I get longer control arms, I'll get some more agressive 33s.

1. flush cooling system Done
2. Track bar brace. Jeremy did some stuff to it..
3. look at my frame cracks some more.... Done
4. borrow or buy a trailer. Nope

5. find out where some of the noises are coming from. Done

6. call a psychic to find out what will break. Done. She says I'm good to go this trip.

7. buy a new tow strap for when mine finally breaks Nope...See #6

8. maybe a 2low...Outta Time

mostly just what Ryan said though.

edit: 1. Decide if truck is ready for a trip to Moab and back...or talk wife into coming/ letting me take Tahoe. Done. The truck is scarier than the Jeep right now. I'm just driving down.

I'm going down Wednesday morning in time to run a trail wednesday.
