that's why i'm going to. i also hear it may be shut down soon as the power company bought the property and is going to put a coal electric plant dead center of the property.

well there is a engine shop right of 480 on on state rd. general engine rebuilders is the name. they really didnt really get the concept of what i wanted, i just told them to polish my crank, bore it .030 over and do a valve job on my head. he kept forgetting what i was doing to it, whether the block he had was a 258 or a 242 and which crank is going where.
what part of ohio are you in, b/c theres at least 4-5 engine shops in the general cleveland area.

I'll sign up for modified, but depending on the trail conditions might run aggressive.
Don't have tires for mud, so if it's wet I'll run the easier stuff.

September 12th, 2006, 12:00
Taken from another forum about this event:
As far as trail sign ups - there are really no "beginner" trails or hardcore trails there. There are bypasses around just about every obstacle, so it really won't matter which trail selection you sign up for, everyone will at some point in time encounter the same path. The question will be whether or not you choose to take the line to the left, or the line to the right.
If you want to insure you ride with someone, make sure you both choose the same trail ride though, and have both parties write the others names for whom you wish to ride with.

I will have a Gold/Orange colored TJ on D60s with probably 39.5 iroks. Hopefully not in the same position.

For anyone that is comeing to this event please keep a eye on Northeastcrawlers.com website for more info. There is alot of land being bought over there and in some spots there starting to crack down. The event is still on but please keep up to date. I would hate for you guys to travel and then get there and the main ways to get in are blocked. It looks like they have permission from one the land owners to enter on his land. http://www.northeastcrawlers.com/necforum/showthread.php?t=3848 Still hope to see you guys there.

Hey Guys,
As of now Halloweenie is still on. We have paid the owner of the Forbidden Zone "campground" (using that term loosley) to bring our vehicles into the trails through his property.
I personally went down there a few days ago and talked to one of the major land owners, Amos Rawson. Rawson said that effective immediately the main staging area is closed, as well as all trails leading up to the top of the hill from the staging area. This includes Train Track Hill, Escape Route (AKA "The V" and a few others. This only effects 480 acres out of the 2,500 there is to wheel on. Will the rest of the areas ble closed off soon? Probably as the Columbiana County Port Authority is promoting the area as an intermodal transportation hub due to it's proximity to the Ohio river and availibility of cheap, undeveloped land.
Rawson has leased 480 acres of his land out to the state to be used as a land fill for silt dredged from the Maumee river. Plans are to dump 1 million tons of silt per year for the next 10 years.
Rawson, from Twinsburg, OH, is already a MULTI Millionaire and is part owner in a C&E Coal Co, and A&L Salvage. I'm sure the money that could be generated by an off-road park would be nothing to him...especially when compared to what he is looking to gain from a state contract.
Rumor is that the owner of the Oak Tree Sportsman's club (another entrance to the trails) will be selling his land off to a company who eill be building a facility to process coal into diesel fuel and JP8.
So...the future of the trails at Wellsville looks pretty bleak. It is still open at the present, however.
Should the situation change, we will call everyone to let them know if we need to cancel. At this point I do not see that happening.
To keep up with all the halloweenie news be sure to check out the forum located at www.jeepinohio.com/halloweenie06
Thanks,

Due to unforeseen circumstances that are far beyond our control we are going to have to cancel Halloweenie '06. In case you have have not heard the land at Wellsville is closing. Some areas will remain open, however it seems that most are closed. It is just not worth the risk to hold this ride and possibly end up wheeling in a restricted area.
We just decided this minutes ago and will be posting announcements and calling everyone who registered. We will be cutting checks to refund everyones registration fees and money they paid for t-shirts...unless they decide they still want them. Unfortunately the stickers have already been ordered, printed and paid for. If you ordered stickers you will be getting them. You will receive your checks in the next few weeks.
We're sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you, but we figured it was beter to cancel now rather than show up and not be able to wheel.

Am I missing something? According to the news article posted, it seems that this has NEVER been a legal area.
http://reviewonline.com/news/articles.asp?articleID=3777
All-terrain vehicle riders come from all over Ohio as well as outside the state. Many transport their vehicles several hours to reach Saline Township. A posting on the internet says the area has 4,000 acres of property on which to ride.
Saline Township Police Chief Ken Hayes says that is not true. It’s a myth because all property is private property belonging to someone and, he says, is off-limits.
If I am incorrect please tell me.

I believe that a recent land sale is the reason for all of this.
Apparently the private landowners were ok with it, and some even charged for access, but the landowner with the majority of the acreage has entered into a lease agreement with a corporation to be the dumping ground for river dredging. At least that's my understanding.

true, I was planning on going, my neighbor had been a few times and had never had any issues, even talked with a landowner about it. I guess the problem arises that there are many adjoining properties, kinda hard to mark property lines effectively in the woods.

My trouble with this is that IF the area is not 100% legal wheeling then it cannot be discussed in this forum. I was under the assumption that this was a legal, clearly marked off-road area. As I am sure you know, as should everyone else, wheeling in areas that are not legal reflects badly on the entire hobby. I am afraid as it sits, I will need proof that this is a legal ORV area to allow this thread to remain. I have never been there, so I do not know. I will PM the original poster for information.
I will give it 24 hours for that proof to surface.

The owner of the majority of the land used for wheeling(Amos Rawson ) has always known that people used his land for offroading, and he never cared. Their are 2 other owners of land that is used for wheeling. They both have camp grounds on their land, and are their mainly to be used by the Trucks/Jeeps/Quads/Buggies that use their land(and the other land out there) to wheel.
Its never been posted as off limits until now. The media story's that I've seen have twisted the info about the land use to make it seem like closing the area was the only thing to do. It comes down to the fact that the land has been sold/leased to be used for other things, and there isn't anything we can do about it at this point.
All of the info on the closing of this land has been posted in this thread. Most of the info posted in this thread(other then the random comments) are from people who have talked to the owners/police/sheriff in the area themselfs. http://www.northeastcrawlers.org/necforum/showthread.php?t=3848

x2!! I looked at the parks pictures and pictures from trips there on other webs sites. I'd like to know if its all mud, or if they have some rocks? I saw one part that looked like a rocky water fall, is that all the rock thats out there, or is there more other places?
With Wellsville gone, we're all trying to find more places to wheel.

I went to the painted rock website.
They've just got a forum.
www.offroadohio.com
I registered and started asking questions.
Looks like it's some local people that found a landowner willing to let them wheel. Not a "park" as the status quo defines it. But it is private land, so it's totally legal. They're having their third halloween get together nov 4-5. Primitive camping available. It's pretty much in the middle between 71 and 77 on 70, just south of Zanesville. I will make an effort to go and check it out.
