Big Bear Trip - June 21 and 22

Hey all, a few of my buddies and I are going to run Big Bear next weekend. We are staying in a hotel over night and are running both days. We are going to run John Bull Saturday morning and then everything else is up for grabs.

I would love to offer a hand but my weekend is packed and so is next week. Good luck getting it done :).

On a side note, we are going to be neighbors soon. The misses and I are closing escrow at the end of the month on a house in the south west corner of Trabuco/Cherry (right by the park). Now I will be able to sneak over during your next "fix-it" party.

So ya know, the LOST JEEPS group will be up there on Sat running several trails w/ John Bull being one of them. There is also a motorcycle run up there on Gold mtn that morning and not sure where they go from there so keep an eye out for crowds of Jeeps and bikes.

I'm gonna try and do this; John Bull is literally one of the only trails I haven't run in those mountains, and a crowded day with people falling off their Yamahas sounds like a blast.:D:D:D

here's some suggestions - first, john bull won't be that busy we can't have some fun - the FS might have banned bikes from that trail - don't know.
Options r limited because of fire damage - but trails like heartbreak ridge, dishpan springs, and a few others r open

I was unaware that Holcomb was closed so, we spent alot of time on fire roads to get to the Bull and by the time we got out of the trail, it was getting too late to run Gold Mountain besides, figured there'd be a crap load of traffic on that one as well....kinda disappointing. If you go, bring plenty of mosquito repellent........they were brutal!--------Hans

Last time I ran John Bull we had a guy on 3" and 31s do the whole trail without needing a tug, Being that low he took a little rocker damage but nothing major and had a little trouble in a few spots but made it through. If you like having straight rockers than get some rails and go for it, or just go for it.

Maybe its just me, But I dont agree with putting rock rails on a straight rocker panel.. Now that I have a nice dent it mine I have rocks rails coming soon.

Ight so my Cherokee isn't the most high dollar rig so here it goes. I have a 4,5" lift up front, and I'm sitting at around 2-3" in the rear. Sittin on 31x10.5 mud kings. The Jeep works real well, but to tell you the truth, I have never really wheeled that hard, hope I can attend!!

As much as i'd like to do sat JB, skeds won't work out for some of the others gonna be there - right now, it's skwerrly, me, eddie & his yota, 2 rubicons, possibly a land rover , and maybe socalbill - we gotta be back by 5:30-6:00 pm - so derek can play his tourney, & eddie has to be up early the next am. If we can work gold mtn in after JB, great - depends on traffic. Anyone else who wants to join up w/ us, let skwerrly know - we have the gear to help most thru JB

Not sure if it was mentioned but besides the cycle group running Gold mtn that day, there is also an Adopt-a-trail group heading out to work on GM that morning. So that makes 3 groups of Jeeps/etc. plus a group of motorcycles all on the same trail on the same day.

This could possibly be the busiest you will ever see Gold Mtn.

The LOST JEEPS folks will also have a group on John Bull on Saturday.

I have been up there the last two weekends and pilot rock and white mountain are pretty cool for a change but a bit of a dusty drive,bull gets pretty boring after the first 50 times or so, you guys enjoy I got a few things to do and off to the rubicon.......SANTA

Bull does get boring, but i just run the whole thing in reverse now to mix it up....

UPDATE!! Sunday morning we are running the Bull first, so we can for sure do it. Gold Mountain will be second and optional, depending on time and the amount of traffic up there. I'm meeting Terry (cruiserhead) in Redlands at 8 am, and we are heading up by 830, so we should get there pretty early in the morning still. MAYBE be up there by 10, a litter earlier if we can swing it!!

ive done about 6 days wheeling up there in the last 6 weeks and to be honest... there is too much damn traffic every weekend!
Since Holcomb has been closed, every man & his dog with a 4x4 have converged on JB & Gold Mtn.
I just except there will be alot of people & enjoy the forest....

Plus, in a sad way, i find it sligthly amuzing watching rich guys in H2's drive the most retarded lines you have ever seen.
