If you need any help with the list just let me know, actually i'm only good at the beer drinking.
I think I told you I was 60/40 for the fall fling the other day at the M&G, even though I hate commitments I think it's time... didn't you say you were staying at the Slickrock campgrounds as well, if so what space or area, I'm looking into that tonight and may make the reservations assuming there are any left.
(and it's now official I'm red)

Bear, i am staying at Slickrock Camp Ground. I have RV spot #165. its located behind the cabins. its a back in site with water and power only. i will be putting my popup tent trailer in there. they have different types of sites available ranging from a basic single tent site (i had one for the 06 FF), multi tent sites, cabins, basic rv spots (car camping), power and water rv and full rv connections including cable tv. the prices are pretty good to. some people seem to think that its a little run down but i dont think it is. ive stayed in ALOT worse. check out http://www.slickrockcampground.com/ for more info on types of sites, prices, map of the grounds and contact info. i hope to see you there:wave: . the closest thing to we have here in AZ to moab would be the sedona area as far as some of the terrain and beauty of the landscape
offroader, im gonna have to upgrade to 33s before i install the shackles. that high with 31s will look even more silly than it does now with 4.5" i still need to figure out what amount of lift those shackles will give me. its appox 3" from center of bolt to center of bolt on the j/y shackles we found. once i figure out how much it will give me, i need to get appropriate size coil spacers (or just go with ACOS). i will deff give you a hollar for that.:repair:
anyone want to help me drop my tnt y link belly skid and front axle so that i can do the SYE, drain and fill tranny and weld on my LCA brackets? i hope to do it the weekend of the 21st.
for those whom may be on the fence on to go or not to go, i urge you to check out some of the trip reports and pics from the past fall flings...

hey measure those shackles from hole to hole and i can tell you appoximatly how much they will lift your rear
ok, the stock shackles measure appox 3" from center of bolt to center of bolt. the lift shackles measure 6" center of bolts. so the shackle is 3" longer than stock, approx half of that being lift height, so they are 1.5" lift. correct?
offroader461
June 12th, 2008, 19:23
correct sir...so some 1.75 Daystar shackles will level it out nicely

i have school next week for my apprenticeship. so i will be less burnt out from the heat when i get home. ill be tackling the SYE, AW4 drain/fill, and weld on LCA mounts after school for that reson. (the small portable swamp cooler in my garage can only do so much especially after working construction all day). i got reading through the instructions and i have some questions about it.
the instructions mentioned needing heavy duty snap ring pliers. im familiar using snap ring pliers on the snap rings with the "eye" holes on the end. but i got to looking at the hardware kit and the snap rings supplied with the AA SYE kit do not have any eyes on the snap rings. are the snap ring pliers not needed after removal of the old parts?
any tips or pointers for the installation process? (like try to have an extra can of sanity handy if possible- wait, im fresh out).
im also getting the itch to fab. i noticed a place called "valley steel" located on 75th ave just barely south of grand. im wondering if anyone has had experience with them and has any imput. also, same question for glendale steel by the drive in movie theatres on bethany homies rd. nothing big, just need some 1/4" plate.
thanks

Stewie,
Check out these links for a blow by blow on how the SYE is installed. There are rings that DO have holes so just get a good set of snap ring pliers and you'll be covered. You can use regular (long) needle noses for the ones without holes.
http://www.links4jeeps.com/writeups/231sye/1.php
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hGpjCAkOvk
One more thing. Check the chain in the T-case when you are doing the SYE. This is the perfect time to replace. If it is sloppy at all, save yourself a headache down the road and take care of it.

last night i got the front axle removed and cleaned up the front coils (dirty and greasy as hell) and some of the steering conponents too. i want to try to get the belly pan out and the tc removed, but im not sure how much i will get done as i have a small family obligation. after the sye, and drain/fill tranny i will weld on the new lca brackets and im thinking of hitting the axle with a wire wheel and repainting. damn utah winters. all cosmetic, but why put a rusted up crappy looking piece back under there when for a little more effort it can look half way decent again with some spraybomb.

last night i managed to get the belly pan with arms off and the tc out. both were soaked in oil and the tc was also caked in dirt and grime. I guess the rear seal was worse than i thought. i was able to clean them both off last night. today i am gonna start tearing into the tc after school.

I hit a snag.
I noticed that one of the caliper bolts was missing when I removed my D30 for the last set of projects. Turns out that the threaded hole in the knuckle that accepts the caliper bolt is wallowed and/or stripped. (guess i wont use an air ratched to tighten them down no more). I figured no problem, I have a set of brake caliper brackets off of a renix xj. no go. the renix era brackets that I have bolt onto the steering knuckle. on my 95 its all one assembly.
guess I get to either get a new knuckle or find some way to salvage it. im not the most keen on welding it closed and redrilling and retaping due to the way cast steel acts in the molten state. plus trying to get good penetration into that area would be hard without beveling out the hole.
anyone have ideas? cash is short for me for now because i dont get paid when i go to school for my apprenticeship.
EDIT: i just called the STEALership and they want $408.75 for the outer knuckle. I might end up going junkyarding on the fourth.

I got a ZJ pitman arm installed today. I also think I found a source for a new bushing in my mj shackles. even the stealership said they dont have a part listing for just the shackle bushings. we will see if this one will work or if its too good to be true.

bump. one month to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I got a lot done this last week. I drilled a hole in my- belly pan so that i can drain the trans fluid without having to drop the belly pan, front suspension, and front axle. got the trans drained and filled. i recieved a fan controller and picked up some other supplies to use on a taurus fan. started on a set of tube doors made out of s-10 tire carriers- stripped old braketry off, ground down the left overs, removed latch and handle, removed hinge, mocked up latch, and did a set of rough measurements. i also made my front doors removeable today.
this week i hope to finish up the tube doors, and start on the taurus fan. maybe even install the hood vents if i am lucky.

I know that I cant be the only buisy one here. I know quite a few of us have dropped out, so who left is going? Is it just Kracker and I?
On the working note, I hate when storms interrupt my fabbing. Last two nights I've needed to stop early becuse of the storm. The passenger side tube door is done, drivers side it tacked up except for the latch. I should be able to get it done after the weekend.

I have backed out, but I have been working on my list. I have the 1st coat of paint on the jeep. I have a little touch up sanding before I put the second coat next week. The front WJ brake swap problems I had are now fixed (I had nothing but problems with the Sport Trac rotors so don't use them). Will start on the rear D44 seal leak and new radiator will come in the next pay check or two. Then it will be off to Justin's house for some welding mods and I will back on the trail for winter trips!
