View Full Version : Speed Sensor/Crankshaft Position sensor???

I'm a bit confused on this issue. Are these two sensors the same, crankshaft position sensor and speed sensor. I'm trying to find a new wiring harness for my CPS but am having trouble finding one. If they are the same thing it gives me two things to look for, but I don't want to buy a wiring harness for a speed sensor if it isn't the same.

The Crankshaft Position Sensor (CPS) is also sometimes called the Engine Speed Sensor or Crankshaft Speed Sensor (ESS/CSS) - and it is different from the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS,) which is usually in the transmission or transfer case tailshaft housing.

Glad to be of help. I wasn't quite sure I was answering the correct question - as I'd said, there are actually TWO speed sensors (at least... If you have ABS, you have one per wheel as well...) on nearly every computer-controlled vehicle...
