I took a stroll out to painted Gorge this weekend to play around. I hadn't been there in bout 8 years .. Anywho it seems they made it an offical OHV park out there... I had fun but it was way to hot. Took a few pics.... Id say its a great place to play for those of us without the big lifts and tires and i know if u go further back it gets alot ruffer.

Painted Gorge is just before u hit el centro when ur heading out 8 east u take the ocatillo exit

Those pictures were not of Painted Gorge.
The state park closed Painted Gorge to off-road vehicles a few years back.
Basically that area is located just outside the State Park and just prior to entering the Gorge.
It has been several years since I have been out there too. We used to take the dune buggies through the gorge and head up the mountains and do some sight seeing.
That area might make for a good winter or night run for the group.
Ahhh....the memories!!

Oh, and its spelled 'Ocotillo' ;)

Glad you got a chance to stretch your legs this weekend, I have spent the whole weekend hoping back and forth between the computer and the garage!

Yea rick is right thats the lil play area before the gorge . I heard the gorge is closed half the year. I dunno i know its been 8 years since i was back that far and i never saw any signs or gates, i just used to go there cause there were never any cops/Rangers. Plenty of washes and various hills to climb

Maz i'm definately liking the lift ... u just cant beat it for the price.
It flexes really well ... even with my 31" all terrains, all aired up it can really climb. its definately bouncy. Small bumps in the roads/cracks u can really feel them but speedbumps and other bigger stuff it takes to just fine.

SandiegoXJ i'm sorry bro but it was a spur of the moment thing and we were only there for about 2 hours... was kinda more of a lets go blow craps loads of cash in gas just so i could see my front end flex.

I might be in the process of putting together a run to Pancake Rock/Hill what ever its called next month. Pankake rock is just down highway 94 over by barret lake so its a close drive. That simi black jeep in the pics above is waiting on a front driveshaft then i'll have him and a beefy bronco coming along. Maybe we can get a few boys together... but damn i hate the heat.
Ehh who knows.

Anywho i'll say i'm still a bit of a chicken shit behind the wheel of my lil red beast.. i got a lot of learning to do.

hey kris I live in El Centro and just got myself a stock '90 cherokee a week go. I'm planning on testing it once I install the shackles and spacers I picked up, where do you recommend I go????????

Ahhhh, good times, I grew up in El Centro, Ocotillo was my backyard, used to get out of high school and take Dads bronco out there for a beating....he always wondered why i only got 10-12 MPG and he could get 16....lol

Hey bro Hit me up when ur ready and i'll take u out to painted Gorge.
Its 15 min from ur house and there is plenty to do with a stock or close to it rig.
