understanding BS

hey,
i am buying new wheels and meat for the XJ.

some things i don't understand
back space?
the wheels i'm looking at are 15 X7 with 4 in of BS
what is the BS of a stock XJ wheel?
does more BS mean furhter out?

the tires are 30 x 9.50 x 15
XJ has a new 2 IN lift
with stock flares

i would like them to sit a little wider than stock but not wider than the flares.
will this set up do it?

also with the 30x9.50.15 is a 7 In wide wheel better than an 8 inch wide?

No, it means the wheel will tuck further under the vehicle. Less BS will move the wheel further out from under the vehicle.

Yes. I would not move to an 8" wide wheel until XX11.50XX, especially if you air down on trails.
