Seen it before, worth seeing again.

Question - If Jimmy cracked corn and no-one cared, why'd they write a song about it?:D

(Just what I normally do - try to inject a little levity into an otherwise serious situation. If you're not laughing, you're doing something wrong...)

Most flag wavers are raging hypocrites. They'd gladly ignore disabled veterans, with little or no real help. Usually the only real empathy is from there military peers who are likely as damaged as they are.
California legislating benefits, to live in, same sex partners, while children go to bed hungry and veterans receive marginal care. The solution is to move out the Mexicans, to free up some resources.
While the veterans were off doing their duty, the stay behind peers were learning to work the system, to their benefit. Rarely do the soldiers ever cross their minds, except during some newscast that usually only mentions the fatalities and rarely mentions the casualties.
A soldier (or veteran) who is attacked by his civilian peers for believing in a Jewish Zombie. Whatever belief system he devised to keep him going every day, denigrated by his peers, the stay behinds.
Older veterans peed on by foul mouth Internet warriors, who it's obvious don't have the slightest clue.
The guys returning from a war zone, with a toe in your reality and most of two feet in there memories (a different reality from yours, I remember filling body bags with a puddy knife). Many people try to get as much distance as possible, from the weirdos. Most people don't have a clue, how hard it is to adapt, both directions, military to civilian and from civilian to military. Not to mention the culture shock, of living in foreign societies. Some rather radically different from home and with a very different value system.
When you return, you really notice just how much society has evolved since you left. The stay behinds getting ahead, while you stayed constantly dirty, lived in shit and ate garbage.
Most soldiers are pragmatists and have developed some sort of belief system (or they are sociopaths). Which has to obviously be some different than their stay behind peers.
You listen to people saying homosexuality doesn't hurt anybody and you remember the 7 guys laying the meat to some 130 lb 19 year old kid late one night. He wasn't screaming for help, don't ask, don't tell.
Or the drug (or alcohol) zombies, trying to hold on until there next urine test, just waiting for the pressure to increase as soon as somebody finds out how they are trying to deal with the pressures they have now.
Joe civilian is an asshole hypocrite. Most have opinions and demands, but are unwilling to do more than say, somebody should do something, so the problems don't encroach on there comfort zone.
I don't ever think I've meant a veteran who hasn't asked, "What the heck was I fighting for?"
I think I've actually known one true patriot in my whole life and he died in the service. Most fight for the oath, plain survival or *their* peers. Some fight for their God or just because they like it.
A true patriot in the military is a rare rare bird.

Odd, I'm not allowed to say I disagree with someone, but you are? :bangtard: I think the difference comes in as to method of disagreeing. Me saying you're an idiot because such and such doesn't exactly contribute anything...

All I'm saying is there was a lot said in that e-mail with only one sentence regarding Christianity, and yet you still managed to comment on that one sentence rather than the entire rest of the post... Anytime someone posts anything that mentions religion there's a very regular contingent of people who post just to say its all a fairy tale. Your point of view is well known round these parts. Try keeping it to yourself once in a while. No need to try and argue everytime religion is mentioned.

Sooo, if I start a thread saying something like "I don't believe in God", no Xtians will post in it. :) Interesting thought process you have there.
Completely different situation. In this case, the thread is about the imbalance in sympathy for terrorists and how we're expected to kowtow to them and respect them and their beliefs/rights even when its their belief that causes them to kill us and behead our civilians, not even just soldiers/combatants (which would still be hideously wrong).
If you start a thread saying you don't believe in God, would it be to debate the existence of God or just stating that you don't to stir the pot? The difference is when I say I disagree, I don't tend to automatically call the other side an idiot or call your beliefs a fairy tale and only weak minded people could believe. Are you even capable of remaining civil when religion is mentioned? And is the word Christ so offensive to you that you can't even bear to see it in print? Is that deal behind the whole Xtians thing? I've just always wondered that. Xmas instead of Christmas, people still pronounce it the same, why the censorship in print? And why not Xlims and Xukah? ;)

But yes, college money was a part of it. So was family history, my dad fought in Vietnam with the Corps. So was the personal challenge, can I make it in the Marine Corps? Serving my country was no small part. I had every intention of making it a career, but then life happened. I chose to get out and be with my family rather than lat move (MOS was closed) into something I'd love but would keep me deployed for 6 months a year at minimum...

The trouble with arguing about religion is that everyone is absolutely 100% positive they are right and theres no evidence to proove them wrong. This makes arguing a total waste of time because no one will win and no one will change their beliefs.
My wife and I have totally opposing beliefs. We sometimes discuss it just to get a grasp on and understand each others views but never to try to change the others views. I accept her views for what they are. To her they are fact, to me they are not, and thats just the way it is.

Ever see one of these on a car? Literally the letters spell the word "icthus"(one spelling), greek for fish. It is also an acronym for the guy all you Xtians worship (not passing judgement). Each letter is the first letter for the words "Jesus Christ Son of God Savior" , or Iesous Christos Theou Yios Soter. The Greek letter X (chi) is the first letter of the Greek word Christos (Χριστóς). The sign of the fish was used by early Xtians

Really? I never knew that!! Your show of internet superiority has humbled me... :bawl:
If it's really just a shortening of Christmas because of the Greek letter for Christ, then why aren't Christians the ones doing the abbreviating? My comment was simply in regards to the secular habit of shortening Christmas to XMas and this seemingly new business of shortening Christians to Xtians. Should I shorten Christ to just X? Would anyone figure what the heck I'm talking about?

I agree, that's why I for the most part have given up on religious "debates, specially online. 1)As I recall, you asked the question.
2)It's got nothing to do with the internet. May sound ironic, but it is a piece of info learned from my Godfather about 25 years ago when I asked him about the "Xmas" thing. Since I asked, he made me learn it. It's not a censorship issue, just shorthand that's been around for a few hundred years.

I just love getting TRNDRVR and the dems riled up. I'm hoping once they learn to read, they'll wake up and realize what they're voting for when they vote Democrat.

Again, I think its funny that the Congress approval rating is what, less than 20% now? And the Dems have only been in control of Congress for 2 years! :roflmao: If they get control of the White House....well, "God" (Allah?) help us!

Oh ya...I'm perfectly fine with where I'm at and what I'm doing, and I support what we're doing here - in fact, I think we should be doing MORE. Everything is too sensitive though. Who cares if Obama will screw us, it can't be any worse than the ass raping that the republicans have given us over the course of the last few years.

Bridges to no where in Alaska? Campaign redistricting under false pretenses in Texas. Bribery and corruption from Tom Delay and Jack Abramoff. Or any of the illegal activities from the White House administration.

Don't worry, I know exactly who I'm voting for, and it's not another Republican anytime soon.

As for your PC war. We shouldn't be fighting it in the first place. It's not PC, it's a war based on farking lies. Kill Osama, and call it quits. I don't care about PC, I care about results. I'll quit bitching when I see my troops home and Osama's head on a frakking stake.

Jesus...how many times are people going to repeat that rhetoric "we shouldnt be fighting this war..." - damn near every democrat out there was for the war, hell even Bill Clinton himself said that Saddam needed to be removed from power (and that was as late as 2003!!!). Yes, we should have went about things differently. It IS PC because democrats are crying "dont torture the prisoners..." "they should be treated as Americans, with the same rights we have...". Horseshit. Ask Senator McCain about torture.

And we are in a government of checks and balances. You cannot sit here and point fingers at the White House for all that is wrong with this country. Besides, you think that everything the Clinton Administration did was LEGAL ACTIVITIES? What a joke. Keep reading your leftist rhetoric.

Democrats are a bunch of hypocrits. We need to reduce our dependence on foreign oil (meaning we need to rely on our own supplies) - oh wait, but you cant tap into any of our supplies. There's a real logical arguement. If Dems hadn't been putting up this moratorium for the last 26 years, hadnt blocked every refinery and nuke plant we wanted to build for the last 32 years (yes, every refinery and nuke plant in this country is at least that old), then we wouldnt be in this situation.

Listen, I'M NOT A FARKING DEMOCRAT.

Build nuclear power plants, research and develop new energies sources, I'm all farking for that. Never said I wasn't, but then again, I'M NOT A FARKING DEMOCRAT. Most democrats aren't against that crap either, but ask yourself who stands to profit if we don't build nuke plants. The coal industry and their lobbyists, that's who. But I suppose that neither here or there.

Sure Clinton was a douche bag, but lying about getting a blowjob from a farking fat intern never got anyone killed. Then you've got your pissed-off-ed-ness directed in the wrong direction. It was a Democrat who screwed up this badly. Clinton f*cked this country up more than anyone realized - we're now "reaping the benefits" of his tenure.

An administration cant be judged by the status of the country during their tenure - its in the years following that you see the true colors of what they've done. It takes YEARS for things to develop, because of how slow government/economy moves. 9/11 happened because Clinton didnt do his job, he screwed our intelligence agencies to the point where it has taken 8 years to get them back into a semi-working state. Ask me how I know. We rolled into Iraq because Clinton didnt do his job, and because his "attemps" to put the smackdown on Saddam did not work.

Nuke power not being more prevolent in this country has nothing to do with coal. It has to do with tree hugging leftests who claim it isnt safe, or "what do we do with the waste"....You're trying to tell me that Greenpeace is PRO nuclear power? Give me a break...

So what you are saying is that we can thank GWBush for the huge depression we are heading into the next 2 to 4 years no matter who gets elected in November. In that case, why not vote for democrates this year, then you can let others blame the coming depresion on the new democrats in 2 years!

The clean coal technology isn't cost effective right now, solar power is nice for a single home owner, but again it cost an arm and a leg to have the system installed and there isn't a good way to store the excess energy. In my experience it's because Christians tend to be ignorant of what they're taking in and are quick to judge/preach when they don't fully understand. I give 'you guys' (blanket statement ;)) such grief because you typically don't know who you're arguing with. The Catholic Parishes I grew up in were very educational. Example: The 'X' thing was first grade stuff for us. We didn't just quote/memorize scripture, we learned the history and meanings behind what we read. I finally gave up on unit bible study when I was in the Army because I was the only Catholic amongst a group of heathen 'born-agains'. The Chaplain was a little unnerved when I'd correct him and end up teaching lessons in his own home. ;) I still :laugh2: when Christians get red in the face and try to separate Catholics from themselves. :shhh:

There have been recent break throughs in solar cells that make that no longer true. Some of it is posted here in a natural Gas AC thread I started a few days ago.

http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=957214

Company in California is producing 0.99 cents / watt capital cost thin film solar cells. They just built a 1 GW per year production facility for less than 2 million dollars (the Google guys are part owners!!!). They had DOE funding three times over the last 6 years, and are now in full production. Their systems are being sold to commecial operators only, so far they (commercial operators) are selling the excess power to the local grids during peak loads when the sun is shinning, so no need for batteries yet.

While I agree clean coal plants are not being built in significant quantities (and are not cost effective, or they would get built right now in signicant quantities), I don't recall my comment or the comment I was commenting on mentioning CLEAN coal. Not really disagreeing with you, just pointing out the topic shift.

In my opinion current nuclear power plants are just as big of an environmental problem as dirty coal power plants, and history shows us that it takes forever to get nuclear power plants permitted and built. By then we could all freeze in the dark!

In 63 years we have yet to create a safe politically accetable answer to the problem of nuclear waste disposal in the USA. What makes anyone think a few more years is going to change that?

I did hear a funny story in the 1980s commentary by Paul Harvey on the radio, he asked why we could not dispose of nuclear waste by launching into the sun, or better yet make use of those huge nuclear bomb test site craters in New Mexico that were already radioactive, but then he said never mind, it would make too much sense for the government to do that, so it would never happen!

I see screw ups from both sides. Clinton cut too many budgets for military and intel. Bush acted on bad intel, whether he knew it or not I'm not trying to argue that point, and also didn't go hard enough. I will not argue whether WMDs existed. They did, people from both sides said so, Saddam used them against the Kurds, I have no doubt he still had some around. Why else would he have made it so difficult for the inspectors to do their jobs. I think Clinton did a decent job on the domestic side of things. I also think he was a lying scoundrel and now that he's out of office, we got to see a little bit of his non-polished side. Bill instead of Slick Willie. He was a bit of an idiot in some cases during his wife's campaign. I think he also was too soft on Saddam during his tenure. You've got a guy who has been defying the peace treaty he signed ever since the day it was enacted and the best Clinton will do is launch a few cruise missiles? Yeah, cruise missiles are great, they blow stuff up with no risk to our service men, but they lack some of the "effect" of an army rolling in hot on the heels of the Marine Corps as they punch their way in to clear some land for the Army to setup. We should've invaded Iraq sooner. I don't think they were a huge threat to us as far as terrorism, most of the guys we're dealing with now would've stayed in Iraq (like they have right now) and fought amongst themselves or against Iran (who is now helping them to fight against us). However, My reason for invading and removing Saddam would be more of a matter of principle. He signed a treaty. He was to allow the UN to send inspectors to find and destroy his stash of NBC weapons under threat of further actions. He defied it and screwed around for 10+ years. No one wanted to step in and force his compliance. It made us look bad. We were being held back by the UN. Clinton being the diplomat he was (and I mean that in a good way) didn't want to step on toes so he stayed out except for a few cruise missiles. Bush said forget this diplomacy business, he's not playing from the same deck of cards as we are, lets do something about this. I'm mostly a fan of GWB, but I can admit when I see errors. Same goes for Clinton, I'm mostly an anti-Clinton guy (which stems from his extra-curriculur activities as much as anything else) but I can recognize when he done good.

:shhh:
I separate Catholics (not entirely) as a matter of huge doctrinal differences. Where they got that a man (priests) can absolve you of your sins, or that Mary (Jesus' mom) can do anything for us from Heaven, or would even need to seeing as to how we're given liberty to speak directly to the Father through Jesus, or that we go into limbo, etc. There's a lot of big differences between Protestant Christianity and Catholicism. Mormons are another group with huge differences from the "standard" Christian bible, and while I don't know as much about them, the Jehovah's Witnesses also kinda took off down a different road... :)

EDIT:P.S: Am I the only one that finds this interesting? Two completly separate discussions going on side by side in the same thread?

The priest doesn't 'absolve' you, he helps you pray for forgiveness and helps you acknowledge that you did wrong (and suggestions on how to reconcile!). Nobody but God has the power to forgive. ;) And we're talking about the kinder, gentler New Testament God...not the vengeful Old Testament grump. :D

FWIW, the Jews tossed out 15 books from the Old Testament around 100 AD. The Catholic Bible uses those 15 books while the Protestant Bible uses the same Old Testament as the Jewish faith. Huge difference, yeah? Did you know that the Protestant and Catholic New Testaments are the same? :lecture: Same bible, just a little more of it.

The difference comes in when comparing how things have been interpreted. Ok, so I'll admit I was wrong about priests forgiving your sins, however, that still raises a question as to what are they advising you to do in repentance. If its anything other than praying for forgiveness, and turning your back on that sin, that's unbiblical. Mind you, we can't just sin and say sorry and be all good. Forgiveness only comes if you're truly repentant, and only you and God know when you are.

While I agree clean coal plants are not being built in significant quantities (and are not cost effective, or they would get built right now in signicant quantities), I don't recall my comment or the comment I was commenting on mentioning CLEAN coal. Not really disagreeing with you, just pointing out the topic shift.

Oh when you brought up coal I thought thats what you were talking about, didn't mean to change the subject.
Interesting stuff on the Thermal Solar.
Yes there have been break throughs in solar cells, they don't store energy. They create the energy. Or something like that, ha ha.
I'm a big fan of solar, the sun is always shinning in El Paso, I just wish all states would offer tax rebates for using it, and then the electric companies should give better rates for the power you sell back to them that you don't use.
I'm also a big fan of Nuclear power, but again yes there is no good solution for storage of the waste. Aren't they building some huge hole in the groung out in Nevada? Thought I saw a show about that once. I grew up real close to TMI and yea you have to worry about it, but you need electricity.

They've got it handled. ;) The Catholics aren't suggesting 'unbiblical' means of repentance. I thought I outlined it well enough, but apparently not. :)

I was told the difference between Catholics and everyone else was that the Catholics were forgive! LOL. :woohoo:

Actually you both are sort of correct. While the Catholic priest gives the confessed sinner a list of things to do for penance (sp?) for their sin(s) Catholics are, or at least were taught that the priest has God's authority (when he is ordaned a priest) to forgiving their sins in the sacrement of Confession. The same is true of the "Last Rights" sacrement which is a forgiveness of all one's sins before they die, so they can straight to heaven, and not have to to get stuck in Hell or Purgatory.

The nice thing about being Catholic is you go can create mayhem, murder, rape, and so on, then go to church and confession and be forgiven! YeH!!!!party1:

Of course all the other Pagans and similar low lifes are left out in the cold as they are non beleivers, including Protestants, and therefore unforgiven. :shiver:

Of course the Catholic church has softened much of its rhetoric in the last 20 years.

On second thought it might make sense to go Nuclear, then when we all started glowing in the dark that would solve the lighting problem for sure!

Yes, they have been working on the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste depository spending billions of dollars for about 20 years now, but now everyone that has really looked at the underlying geology seems to be saying it is built on top of a dangerous fault, an earthquake waiting to happen that would expose the underground water aquafer that supplys I think, California (IIRC) with drinking water to nuclear contamination. The Democrats and Republicans all admit it is a big government screw up that both parties are to blame for, which is why they don't talk about it much, LOL, that will never see the light of day, meaning it will never get used, permited or commisioned as it currently stands, but we go on working on building it anyway.

The Russians have hundreds of rusting leaking nuke subs, with thousands of Nuke bombs setting in them sitting on their coast somewhere rusting into the ocean ( I forget where they are), and no money to clean up or stop the leaking radiation. The UK, British Islands Used to toss their nuclear waste in steel drums offshore in the Atlantic.

If you want to know why Nuke plants are bad idea read up on Chernoble, Three Mile Island, and the South Texas Nuclear Project (cost 20 times what it was suppose to cost, and the rate payers got stuck with paying for the (Halliburton, then Brown & Root) cost over runs. It was done at a cost plus rate because inflation was out of control here when they built it and bid it.

Those are some of the skeletons I know of. No doubt there are others.

The US Navy and France have apparently been succcesful in using nuclear energy safely.

I'm still trying to figure out what the topic is here, LOL!

Sort of reminds me of my old family reunions, there would be 5 people in the room all talking at the same time, but no one listening. Forget dialogs it was all monologs. Funny thing was no one got upset that no one was listening, LOL!
