Sidewall rating and Towing

Is there any benefit to going to a load range E sidewall? For moderate towing (under 4000 lbs), would it help keep the XJ more stable? Would a heavier load range mean a thicker sidewall and more protection off-road? Thanks.

Geoff

Load Range E tires are designed for 3/4 and one ton trucks. The biggest gains you will achieve by running E's are better wear and a much stiffer ride, as the sidewalls are heavier. They are designed to run at 60-80 psi, going lower than 50 will cause the liners to seperate from the casing. If you want to go to a heavier tire, look into 8 plies, or Load Range D. They can be aired down to lower air pressures, as they are rated for 40-65 psi, and will give you a better ride, and still more than handle anything you tow with your Jeep.
