Just think if you were a guy at the event that had a slower time than the jeep.

I'd pay to see the look on the face of anybody who lost to one of those YJ's :moon: Did any of you notice that one of them was being run with the windshield folded down too:roflmao:

Id be willing to bet that a XJ with a 4.7, lowered and bigger sway bars would do better then a fair amount of the cars out there.

Same here Starboard, I'd almost be willing to try it in mine if it wasn't such a mess inside!

i have no doubt that a stroker could. But to see the look on the face of a guy who just lost to a bone stock YJ at auto x would be priceless.

It's a missconception that AutoX is only sutable for high end cars, or only sports cars.
There is litterally a class for everything, if there isn't a premade class available for you, they will either shoe horn you into a class, or make you your own class.
I attended a RallyX a few weeks ago. The local SCC set it up in a corn field that had yet been planted. There was a 90's Caprice, a 80's Chevy Wagon, an Audi, a Subaru, a Mercedes Wagon, and a couple of other oddities thowing up dust, er, "competing".
A hoot to watch! When they were done, the Farmer came along and planted the field.
Ron
burgandy 2001 Ford Taurus. I drove it at an autoX event held in a fleamarket parking lot. Borrowed it from my mother!
i was competing against some Saab wagon, a Toyota Sienna, Chevy Aztec, Ford Freestar and a couple others i do not recall.
very "mom" friendly cars screeching tires on every single turn.
it was tons of fun, they had food avaliable and watching the dedicated track cars destroy our times was entertaining.

Well, those were the "yuppiefied" Jeeps, lower to the ground and more street friendly.....
Still no excuse for that though.....
now that i think of it...
1989 Laredo
stripped to the essentials
4.7L or turbo
np242
dana44 rear
1-2" below stock
i could have some serious fun at the roadcourse with that!

anyone know how he did? I'd try it with mine, but it would be too slow on account of the lift...

That's what I was thinking, but I would use a Wagoneer or Briarwood.......if somebodys going to loose to a Jeep, might as well rub it in and beat them in one with woodgrain stickers wrapped around it:firedevil

Interesting videos.
Most sports car clubs won't let Jeep style vehicles or trucks run if they are using the SCCA guidelines for their rules. I'm fairly certain my local club (http://www.mco.org) won't allow trucks to run. Otherwise I'd be running an XJ instead of my car at events. LOL
I also see that they do not require a full stop at the stop box. In other clubs, using the SCCA rules, that would be an automatic disqualification.
For anyone considering trying auto-x, don't get hung up on what you are driving. I see these comments about strokers and such - REALLY not needed.
Auto-x is all about driver skill and suspension/chassis setup. This is why guys with a bit of seat time in a stock Miata will always spank/destroy a newb in a fast car (Vette, Porsche, BMW, Evo, whatever).
