I saw a wreck the other day and for a few days i havent wanted to drive even after getting my permit only a few months ago. A motorcyle was speeding and a suv pulled out in front of him and killed him. I didn't see it happen but i passed it probley a minute after it happed. The bike was torn all apart and the rider was lying in the middle of the road. His arm was torn off and had extreme road rash all over. I don't think i will ever forget it. I wanted to tell you guys this because i dont wan't any one else to have to see this kind of wreck or have someone be told thier dad, mom, or kid is has died. So please drive safe and watch out for others. Anyone can press the peddal down and go fast but only some have the control to be responsible and drive the speed limit do matter how slow you feel like you are going.

I drive 12K miles a month. I see this type of thing almost daily.

You get used to it. Too bad most young drivers like yourself can't witness more things like that. Maybe it would make the world a safer place.

I kinda wish others see the same thing to becuase honestly before i saw the wreck it liked going faster but know i know that it isnt worth it. i would much rather be that slow guy everyone is stuck behind then the guy whos mom has to be told that her son died because he or some one else wasnt driving responsibly.

I've seen quite a lot - even before I started driving myself...

You're right - it would make a good deterrent to being stupid while behind the wheel, and I think pix should be shown in EVERY Driver's Ed class of roadway fatalities like that. Kids aren't learning any other way, apparently (but Driver's Ed out here isn't even farcical enough to be funny anymore. I view living in CA as a "temporary inconvenience."

Come to think of it, I've been hit by a car three times while in CA... I wasn't in a vehicle at any of the three times (the most metal I had around me - once - was a bicycle...)

I stopped being in a hurry years ago. Sometimes, it takes more strength than you'd realise - but it keeps my blood pressure agreeable and saves wear on my nerves. I can go fast if I need to, but I require a damn good reason.

I got by bike license when i hit 16, at seventeen an ahole came out of his driveway(on the highway) and hit the tale of my bike, I was in the hospital for 3 months(he was convicted of careless driving). The next year come around and bought another bike.
A few years later i borowed a bike and went down to Sturgis and on the way there the motor seized up and down again.

And a couple of years ago i was in a truck accident and the found i had serious probs, and since the my whole out look on life changed, I dont take anything serious because it just doesnt matter anymore.

Do i still speed, ya I got nothing to loose, am i careless - no. I am very consious of those around me, I dont speed in town or school zones, u can never know about them zones.

Did I also mention I have mental problems - go figure.

Be as observant as you can when driving, check your mirrors often and know where other vehicles are around you...
Try to anticipate what other vehicles will be doing. Follow traffic laws; use your turn signals far enough in advance, use your headlights during the day and don't be an overly-polite driver, if you have right of way take it. Be decisive in your driving.
I ended up going over a womans hood on my bicycle after coming down a bridge doing about 25 mph. I could see her moving her car like she wasn't sure if she should go, and by the time she made up her mind it was too late...
I slid the bike sideways until i hit the car, rolled over her hood, then jumped to my feet and started clapping my hands. :yelclap:

My Drivers Ed class had this movie called Red Pavement(or Asphalt, I dont remember). The gore in that movie was sickining, coroners photos, at the scene photos, surviors stories. It really made us all think, is screwin around like that worth the chance. Makes you take things like speeding, drunk driving, and being an a$$hat more seriously.

Don't know if it is still shown there, but Id be damn happy if when my sister takes that class that she sees it, wouldn't bother me if it was federaly mandated to see it before being issued a license.

Neither of my boys saw it - which is a pity. I had to regale them with my own tales of gore...

Leaving those movies out (Red Highway, and Blood on the Asphalt, I think) are doing new drivers a disservice. One thing I had to hammer into both of them - YOU are responsible for everything that happens due to a vehicle under your control. Inside and out - if you hit someone/something, EVERYONE that gets hurt is on you...

Im only 19, so it wasn't that long ago. Must be the instructors option to show it or not. Mine was an ex CHP officer, which might have influenced it abit.

I have to admit I've done some dumb stuff (backed into a toyota while trying to show my girlfriend a rabbit hoppin around in a shopping center in Cammarillo, hitch punched a nice big hole in his radiator. My fault, the guy did pull right up behind me in his lowered truck, didnt see him in the rear view mirror, so I asumed no one was there). But I've always accepted the consequences and taken responsibility for my actions. An idea some people cant even wrap there feable little minds around, "You did it, so its your fault. But... but...".

Do you realize the irony in that statement?

Do you realize the irony in that statement?

Irony...yes. If young people were exposed to how $hitty the world can be on occasion...they would be less likely to inflict stupidity on others. Just speaking from experience..i did a lot of stupid $hit when i was a young driver. It's a cruel world...someone can be here one minute and gone the next.
