Okay... Its a Toshiba Satelite A55..
Im getting a message that says it can't start do to a missing or corrupt system file. The file listed is C:/windows/system32/config/setup
It says to repair by putting in original system disk....
Problem is computer wasn't delivered with original system disk. I have the Toshiba recovery disk... but that's not doing the trick....

Only help I can offer is to see if you can find a system recovery disc

The 'repair process' that xp has is worthless. If everything works ignore it; if not back it all up and reformat.

The repair process will reinstall system files and leave personal settings intact. It works fine for this kind of crap.

Yup. Find someone with a disk of the same OS you're using and run the recovery console.

I'm not sure how old your laptop is but I just got a Toshiba Satellite A215 in December and I had a similar problem...It may be able to be fixed with the recovery disks, I'm not sure since my discs were at home when it happened to me and I was at college. I called Toshiba and told them what it said and they ended up having me send my computer to them to their main plant in Tennessee. They sent it back a few days later and said that it had a defective hard drive and that this was a problem with a lot of them and they fixed it with no questions asked. I would try the recovery discs first but if its not too old, you might want to call them and see what they say.
hope this helps
