Wrong holiday mate. You're looking for Armed Forces Day, which was last weekend.

Today we pay respect to those who have died while serving in the Military :patriot: .
A lot of folks take the day to also remember loved ones who have passed on.

If your not into either of those activities, have a picnic and kick back. Tomorrow is the second Monday of the week ;)

you guys need to stop the bashing for those saying happy memorial day to those in the service.. Who cares what day it is. I respect them everyday and thank them everyday for what they are doing. who cares what day it is. you should respect them no matter what.

No one in this thread has bashed anybody.

Pointing out that this day is Memorial Day, a day we especially honor our war dead is not bashing, or showing disrespect, it is being honest to the day and what it stands for.

To quote Abraham Lincoln.

...We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.

But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate -- we can not consecrate -- we can not hallow -- this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. To me, that encompasses the meaning of Memorial Day.

I would just like to say thanks to all the soldiers over the years who have served us in times of war and in times of "peace". plus i get paid for the day off and i am on vacation all week;):patriot:

Ditto, I was just having this exact same conversation with someone else on this board who has served for this country. It's amazing the amount of people that can't just give a simple thanks when they see someone in their uniform.

So thanks to all you guys that deal with all the stuff you deal with on a daily basis! You are our hero's.

My friend who KIA last Memorial Day 2007 in Iraq, he had only been deployed a month this was his 3rd time there. Miss ya Tom...

I have several friends who are currently serving or are leaving to serve, I have prayed for them and called to thank them.

I also prayed for my two deceased grandfather's who are both WWII vets. I normally make a trip to Portland, Ore, to say thank you, and kiss their headstones (morbid I know, but I never really got to say goddbye to one of them), but that didn't work out this year.

don't forget that there our some of our four legged friends(K-9's) serving over in iraq and afghanistan. that give their life to help save the lifes of their handles and many other people everyday. my K-9 parnter DAK is one of those of those unsung hero's. he gave his life to save mine, he will always be greatly missed. i will see one day again buddy.
