About a month ago I received a 24 hour suspension for having alcohol in my system over the legal limit, I was no where near drunk or stumbling and bumbling, just a bit over the limit. This morning I got a letter in the mail from the motor vehicle branch. It states I must surrender my DL within 21 days and I will be prohibited from driving for 2 months , or keep my license and write a letter stating why I should keep it and wait for a registered letter to arrive with their decision. What would you do?? admit guilt, which is 100% the truth and accept the 2 month suspension, after all I was in the wrong! or write a letter begging to keep it?? I'm going to have to explain to the boys why my gf always drives me to my wheelin destination!! I am thankful it was not an impaired charge which would mean a criminal record, and most likely jailtime and huge huge fines. I'm counting my lucky starts still!!

Were there there any impairment tests done? Walk toe to toe, touch your nose blah blah blah... If so, like you said you werent drunk, did you pass those tests?

no feild sobriety, just the breathalizer. Back in the day it was a green )(sober) yellow (warning) and red light (fail) go to jail, now they are just pass or fail, he was nice enough to give me a 24 hour rather than arresting me, and by signing the 24 hour ticket you automatically admit guilt no fighting it. There is no fine or anything associated with a 24 hour roadside suspension, just an x on the driving record.

WWBCD?
"What would Bill Clinton Do?"
Or better yet "WWTKD?"
Roll the dice and write the letter. I'd check online to see if someone has an example of a letter that worked.

if you have the N license, just do it, theyre all about 0 tolerance etc. if you have a regular license, and NEED your vehicle for work, kid etc. write them saying that. do not bs, cuz they might summon you, and you'll have to defend it. and a failed breathalyzer is enough for them to charge if they see fit. if this had happened afew years ago, theyre was a bunch of dui's that were thrown out due to faulty readings. or, if you challenge it, the cop might not even show up. but if you just surrender it, you'll get it back in 2 months. easy as pie.

Lucky. I was at a party, minding my own business about a month ago. Cops show up, we all have to go to court for minor consumption. They didn't arrest us, but the city has a stupid "crime-watch" eMail newsletter that said we were all arrested. Nobody was driving either.
Nice.

So you were served a 24hr suspension, served that, and now they decide to hit you with the 2 month? I thought the 24hr suspension was the puinishment. I'd try writing the letter and beg to be allowed at least a limited license(like the graduated license in use down here for the teens, can't have passengers, drive at night, etc). Don't know if they have anything like that in Canadia, but if you need to drive to get to work, try and write the letter to keep your license. Worse that could happen is they say no and you're stuck with the 2 month suspension anyways. :)

Not that I never got drunk underage ;) (lost rank for it in the Marine Corps), but you were drinking correct? However I think it should be lowered to 18 instead of 21...

I was just going to hand it in to get it back quicker , instead I'll write the letter and keep it until they decide, crappy thing is if they decide to take it you only have like 48 hours to hand it in. I don't nee d the license to get to and from work, I can catch rides, etc, but I do work as a parts and service guy, job kinda requires me to drive!

Just broke it to my boss, he's good with it, he offered to pick me up in the morning, he's even writing a ltter to accompany mine to the motor vehicle branch. I've had boss's that would terminate over something like this!!

I wish you luck with your license FUBAR.
At least your current boss is very understanding.
Just remember, so long as you learn your lesson, it's all good.
BTW, I was once busted for DUI (I initialy got nailed for tailgating), Blew 0.07 and let go with a warning......
Damn lucky, considering I it hadn't yet been a full hour since the drink, I think a few minutes more and I would have been screwed......
Oh well, just another day....

hey man, this rule is news to me in Ontario, but hope this helps with your case either way.
write a simple letter explaining your need to have a valid license to be employed in your current job. with your bosses letter that should be a good enough reason to show them why you should keep your license.
just keep it simple, you do not have to admit guilt of being impaired, because that was never tested. you blew into a machine that is not always accurate, if you had eaten an onion and slami sandwich it can mess it up (seriously) You understand what you did, you paid the price that was set before you when it happened, further punishment is not warranted, and should not be put forth after the fact.
