'92 xj w/ 4.0 .........engine dies at idle speed when a/c is on. runs normal when a/c is off. any ideas??

Wonder if your compressor is bad? My father in law had his compressor go out on his f150, it would cause the engine to shut off, when he turned on the a/c.

There is a function built into the ECU that causes the idle speed to be increased when the AC compressor is engaged. It actually steps up the Idle Air Controller (IAC). I wonder if your IAC is bad.....

Agreed.
The plunger in the IAC gets a signal when the AC is kicked on.
$60 part.
