Leaking tcase rear output seal

I've changed the rear tcase output seal on my 231 in my 88 cherokee twice with a napa seal. I made sure not to damage the seal on installation but it is still leaking quite a bit. Has anyone had this problem with the napa seals? Am I missing something that could cause it to leak? I did not overfill the tcase.

Did you lube the new seal with ATF before you put it in? Also did you use a rubber mallet to put it in?

yea i put some atf on it and I used a hammer and a block of wood to install it

Try a different seal. If that's not it, then maybe the housing is shot..

I used gasket maker when I installed mine the second time, been over a year on that one compared to less than 6 months on the first one.

I wonder if there is a ridge where the seal meets the driveshaft? Is that even possible with a driveshaft?

well i used some rtv where the seal goes into the housing but it looks like it is leaking from where the driveshaft contacts the rubber part of the seal. I may try a different brand seal or something.
