I posted this over on the 4WD.com forums as well...
I have a 2001 sport. manual tranny.
I have been hearing a rattling noise while the engine is running , trans in neutral, and the clutch is out. As soon as I push the clutch in, the noise goes away. If I turn the engine off with the clutch in, there is no rattling, but if I shut it down with the clutch out (in nuetral of course) it sounds like a bunch of marbles rattling around!!
I was told that it may be a bad throwout bearing. The Jeep has almost 97,000 on it and I am the second owner. So I bought and installed (this weekend) a new clutch, pressure plate, pilot and throwout bearing. and the noise it still there!!!
I need to check the transfer case and tranny fluids and might even change them, but I am not sure that will help.
Any thoughts???
