There was an old Jeep that had come in about a week ago, but it looks like no other jeep I have ever seen. I didn't have my camera with me, so no pictures. It looks alot like a older land cruiser or land rover, very narrow, 2 door, AMC 6cyl, Dana 30 up front, pass side pumpkin with locking hubs &drums. Lugs look like 5x5 or 5x5.5. Dana 44 out back the drums are very tall but also narrow. He was not too sure what it was, but another passer by told him not to scrap it until he shows him a few books on what it actually is.
Does anybody know the vehicle I'm talking about?

Its a rust red color with new metal rivited in place all over it. Will any of the drive train parts work easily on an xj or should I try to find a Jeep comando group and let em know its there?

you could prolly use the crank and rods to make a stroker. I beleive their just like a cj but with a different body on them.

My dads 69 commando had the "Dauntless" V-6 w/turbo 350 and Dana 20 T-case. 30 out front(closed knuckle i think) and D-44 in the rear(weaker model of the 44 than what we are use to in the XJ/FSJ).
That was the first Jeep i ever locked the hubs on and pulled the lever, I was 8 or maybe 10 years old and I've been hooked ever since!
Those are great Jeeps if you can deal with the rust.

The commando is a nice rig to restore, hard tops for them too, the only tough part to get is a steel tailgate though there are fiberglass ones out there. I passed one up one sunday that was rust free and clean, guy wanted like $1500 for it w/hard top and soft top. I hesitated, drove two miles down the road, wife said 'if you want it get it', turned around and drove back, 5 minutes, he sold it that quick, I kicked myself.
