We have a long history, they and I. I can spot their web from 50 feet and do evening hunting rounds at night with a flashlight. I do a good job at keeping the yard widow free.

First one is definately a Black Widow...
Second one.... Go to youtube and type in "Camel Spider".... Hollywood has nothing to offer that will make your skin crawl like the real deal.... Our brave men and women who have served in Iraq know what I'm talking about.....

Could'nt have been any blacker, we get alot of the brown ones too.

Me too, they like corners close to the ground and their webs are really strong. I live near the L.A. river so we get all kinds of extra bugs.

we get a few snakes and tons of spiders every year but the cat army in the house keeps the spiders out side, and as for the ones out side they get dosed with industrial insecticide every 2 months. our biggest problem is the damn fire ants, the insecticide does nothing to them except make them march around all crazy like they are drunk. a gallon of gas in each mound and a match take care of them for about a week then they come back in the same spot Ive even soaked in 5 gallon cans of kerosene and burned them suckers for hours and all it did was force them to make a mound about 4 feet away from the old one

fire ants in pinion hills? really?
when I lived in texas we had fire ants. real aggressive little buggers. If they're the imported specie, the gov has an eradication program and if you report them they'll help you.
here's an article on them: http://www.ipm.ucdavis.edu/PMG/PESTNOTES/pn7487.html

All I can tell you about Widows and working on cars for over 25 years is they like to nest in the back side of the wheels and brake drums of cars that sit. Over the gas tank and in the bumpers is next.
I got a Recluse bite reaching in to change a fuel line on the top of a gas tank and my hand swelled so hard the skin split from the preasure and then all the meat died back from around the bite and the blood posioning went all the way down my arm, this was with medical treatment. It took about a year to use my hand again and there is still some nerve damage today. I'll see if I can find some of my pics to toss your cookies.

Sun spiders are cool, even if they are a little scary looking and fearless, we caught them before , it is fun to feed them, they can eat almost any bug, including scorpions. That black widow would not have a chance. When they come in the house we just stick em back outside.
