Feeler: 1996 XJ Sport

Would like your opinions please.

A friend is considering purchasing a 96 4dr Sport from a dealership. Looks to be in good shape and has 44k miles. kbb.com shows $5700. According to the dealer the CarFax say's one owner registered as a rental. Strange. Think it's worth it? He's trading in so is wanting to go dealer.

I paid just under $3000 for my '96 Sport 4dr, in great condition and super clean, receipts for all maintenance, etc. with 160k miles.

My 96 Sport 4dr was $4500 when I bought it from a dealer in 2004. 94k miles, PW, PDL, Alpine CD player, needed a new NSS and water pump, paint was faded. I made them do the water pump before purchasing it. And they gave me $500 in trade for my 90 Samurai with no title and a dead cylinder... Talk em down some. KBB said mine was worth $6500 in excellent condition in 04.
