Lift and shock question

I have got the rough country 4.5" kit on my 91 xj and think that my rear springs are starting to sag a bit. Can someone tell me how much of the shock piston i should have showing? I am talking about the part that slides into the shock body. Think this mite be why i bottomed out my last shocks.

I know that i have got a little weight sitting over the rear with the roof rack and spare tire up there bit didn't think it would hurt it that bad.

Also, i am goin wheelin on memorial day weekend. Can i just install my 1.5" lift block for now to get me a little extra shock travel and hopefully not bottom these new shocks out?

Thanks,
Ben

do you still have the stock flares on the back?

You can measure from the center of the hub to the bottom of the flare - stock measurement is 17", so yours should be +/- 21.5"
