CO- Imogene Pass

This is the second highest pass in Colorado, reaching an elevation of 13,114 feet. Due to the cold weather, some snow remains all year and the road would not be passable except for the county’s efforts to plow it open. This typically occurs by Fourth of July weekend.

Here is a map showing the road as well as associated waypoints:

The .gpx file includes a track and waypoints that correspond to the ones in Charles Wells' Guide to Colorado Backroads & 4-Wheel Drive Trails Volume 1, Second Edition
(http://www.funtreks.com/index.php?page=book_1) that are labeled as follows:
Govnr##- Governer Basin
Imogen##- Imogene Pass
Yankee##- Yankee Boy Basin

The north side of the pass on July 5th, 2 days after being opened. This is not a job for any ordinary plow mounted on a pickup truck, they use bulldozers and a bucket loader.

Even though I have only been up to the pass from the Ouray side (Telluride side was closed due to a slide), this trail is one of my favorites. The scenery was spectacular, and I look forward to completing the trail this year as soon as it opens :)

Pics from August 16- 17, 2008. The wildflowers in Imogene Basin are even more spectacular than in July:

We spent another night at the "Deer Garden" campsite. The wildflowers were waist high, making it harder to spot the deer:
