Ok, this is for all you new members, forum users and even guest lurkers who just found us.
We want to have a run just for you guys. Something easy that anyone from Stock to Built could handle, preferably something close to the SLC area to attract as many of you as we can.
So....you new guys...Please bring your ideas to the table. This run is for you.
BTW you guys who have been around for ever are invited also.

Can't beat 3 days work and 4 days off!:guitar:
Besides, the mountains are empty Monday thru wednesday!
I can use other peoples tree stands/blinds, and the animals calm down with no people!
I know you wanna keep it around SLC but I would be up for a Providence Canyon run. I'll just make sure I don't follow any stockers thru boulder fields.:banghead:

Providence canyon is no longer stocker friendly. Even past the nasty at the bottom it is still very nasty heading up further.
What do you guys think about the first part of Nov sometime? Either the 4th of the 11th?

For Offical Events we try to keep the Calendar IC Chapter Activities (http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=77561) up to date. There is usually a thread for each activity too.

Looks like the perfect time to jump head first and say a big HELLO to everyone in this little club!!
I would very much like to be a part of the noob run to get to meet all you guys.
Looks like there aren't any firm dates yet though. Looking at the other threads from this chapter, it is a family friendly club and should the run fall on a weekend when I have my kids, the more the merrier.
I should get around to doing the "who are you" thread but I haven't yet. Still busy looking at lifts/kits/parts for my newly acquired 99XJ. my first jeep btw.

A biannual event that the club puts on at various locations here in Utah.
Butterfield, The Point, and Francis Peak.

OK. I am going to give you guys a list of things we could go do. You all give me your thoughts on each one and what sounds best.
This will go down the first or second weekend in November. Probably the first weekend.
The first idea, And the one I kind of like.
Northwest Ghost Town run
Most likely this will be an all day or even overnight run. We would start in Corrine, up by Brigham City and head west.
We would first make a stop at the Golden Spike National Monument.
From there we would head west on the old Transcontinental RR bed to the Ghost town of Kelton. Then head further west to a more remote ghost town of Terrace. These ghost towns do not have much left but some old foundations and some cemeteries. Then from there we could...depending on time head south to see the old pumps they installed in the mid 80's to pump water from the GSL to the west desert.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
West Desert run.
This defiantly would be an over night run.
We would start out at Lakepoint and head south to the Pony Express trail and head west. We would follow the P.E trail out to the almost Ghost town of Callao camp out that way. Then head north through the Ghost town of Gold Hill and back Via Wendover and I-80
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Willard Peak (weather depending)
This would be a short half dayer. Head up to Brigham City and end up on Willard Peak over looking Willard Bay and the Great Salt lake.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Skyline Drive.(weather depending)
Leaving Bountiful we would travel up Skyline drive (or old ward canyon) over the top of the Mountain and back down Farmington Canyon.
There are my ideas.....post up what you like or dislike and lets get the ball rolling on this.

I've done both of those ghost town runs and have to say, that they were pretty boring. There isn't much to look at. And the Willard Peak run is my daughter's favorite but I find there are way too many OHV's there. You spend more time pulling over or slamming on your brakes as they come around the corner to make off-roading any fun.
But, hey, since I've only been off-roading twice this year, I'll take any run I can get as long as it's not those ultra-altered-XJ trips. Mine's not altered that much (yet).
And I'm not afraid of any guys. I'm actually looking forward to getting out now that I've gotten rid of the big burden that used to be my husband.

If the west desert becomes the run I might tag along for a few hours then split off and get some much-need coyote hunting in.
Also, has anyone been to Hell's canyon (maybe Devil's Notch?) quite a bit south of Callao? Very nice trail, and it ends up quite high in a meadow full of grass in the middle of the desert. It's a good 4 hours from Salt Lake though, and I'm not sure I remember the way. It's south of Trout Creek, north of Hwy 6 and off to the west, might be in Nevada in fact. A few miles south of Pleasant Valley, if you know where that is.
That's another thought, but it's getting cold this late. Past Pleasant Valley (well WAY up the canyon) you cross over to Nevada and end up in the pines and quakies in a place called Blue Mass- named for the mass of blue wild flowers in the summer. Also good coyote hunting and lots of big kitties to boot. Again, about 4 hours from SLC but I know how to get there with my eyes closed.

Yeah, maybe campout trip. The roads are not even as bad as what we did in the Uintahs though. Well, maybe not. This is my first Jeep, before I did all my 4-wheelling in an F-250 and never even thought about ground clearance, but I still think stockers could make it everywhere. I remember Devil's Notch/Hell's Canyon had a few areas that were pretty rocky, but my F-250 was stock and made it OK.

Maybe a couple of things to consider: If we're tyring to cater to noob's to get them to come out of the closet and hang with us we might want to keep this thing kinda simple. Maybe just a one day-er, somewhat close to home, if possible. I think the idea is to allow them to come out, wheel their rigs a little, but also have a chance to meet new people and see if they'd be more interested in becoming members. Anyone that wanted to could of course do the overnight thing friday or even saturday as they please, but we could maintain the idea that the run itself would be "on this day, meet at this time" kind of thing... yes? no?

As much as I think a camp out is the best way to assimilate people into the chapter, the best turnout of new people probably will come from a 1 day event.

Oh Clint...I haven't forgot. I still think the first of November is the best time.
I would also like to hold a BIG M&G for our new members again in the later part of October.
I am still thinking a west desert, Ghost Town-RR run would be best. Given the time of year.
A desert trip might bring out the Elmer Fudd in some people.....

Any of those three dates work for me. After demolition derby season is over (10/14) my weekends are pretty free.

Pretty much anything but Nov 11 works for me. Although just started new job and I'll be needing to work a couple saturdays per month, so we'll see I guess...

Long ways to walk from Boise, isn't it?
Actually you should be able to come down through the back way to Bendover and drop down through Gold Hill to Callao, if that's where the trip ends up.
I'm headed out there next Saturday to have my better half shoot a stupid harmless animal for our freezer. Bambi's mom will be bambi-burgers.
EDIT, I just saw that you are in Id Falls, for some reason I thought you were in Boise. You'd probably be better to go through SLC, but it's still a long ways to walk :D

Rattlesnake was mentioned before this is a good one because it lets the noobs see mild trails and also lets the mod. and vet. play at the top on const. Just a thought there are also lots of places out by cedar fort so it could be an all day event.

I haven't run rattlesnake yet but from my understanding it's a straight trail and not much stopping? For this "Get to know the new folk" (I hate the title Noob for it) one of the Ghost town rides would be great. Lots of stopping, talking and getting to know these people.
But this is for YOU people, so I'll be quiet now.

As long as the trail is somewhat close by for a day trip I will most likely be in. I work everyother saturday so hopefully it will fall on one of those. Rattlesnake is a fun trail. I would like to see constrictor. There was a lot of snow the first of this year when I went and there was a Land Cruiser in front of us that broke a rear yoke right after we went past waynes world so I did not get to go as high as I would have liked too.

Ha ha ha!! :laugh2: :laugh2: That's funny! Oh wait...
BTW, I've never done either Rattlesnake or Constrictor (or Python, or Anaconda, or Cobra, or Copperhead, or Garter...) so I'd be up fer it

Really, niether one is a big deal, rattlesnake can be done in 10-15 minutes, depending on where you figure the trail starts, constrictor, meh, you do need lockers and body protection, but it's not what people tell you it is:bs:
Yes that last waterfall(Eagle's nest) you won't do without a winch and willingness to $@&#-up your Jeep, It's like Upper Helldorado, without a winch, you will NOT complete the trail..

Noob speaking-
Sounds like we haven't yet secured a date yet for this thing, and what I think is most important to us working class noobs is WHEN, and we will leave it up to the experienced 4wheelers to decide WHERE.
I like OCT 28th, but will have to take off that night from work to do it. not a biggie.
Can we start a poll at the top of the IC chapter page to decide on dates to get schedules figured out for everybody who wants to attend??

I like Oct 28th too. Nov is going to be a killer busy month for me.
Settled OCt 28th...noob run
trail yet to be determined.
Poll generally turn into a fiasco around here for that type of thing. We have enough people with enough difference in opinion that you usually end up with close to a 50/50 vote on everything.
