I have no affiliation with Dynomax or Jegs. I went to a few websites to see if I can get the best price fo the 17340 catback exhaust and ran into this. Just thought I'd pass it on.

For 1993-2000 Catback:

Are these pretty decent mufflers?

I just got mine today via Fedex.
http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii158/tom0826/Dynomax.jpg

It came with a Dynomax Super Turbo Muffler, rear exhaust pipe with hanger and chrome tip already welded on, 3 clamps, another hanger, and a reducer flange for 00 and 01 models. The quality seems very good - at least OEM or better. I know Rusty's also has a Flowmaster catback kit, but it's a little more $.

From searching the forums, I feel this kit is probably the best value for your money, and from what I've read has a little throatier sound, but not obnoxious. But that's all relative to my own ear. So here's the breakdown in cost:

$141.99 for the kit thru Jegs
$11.99 for shipping
-$30.00 for rebate
----------------------------------
TOTAL: $123.98 delivered to my door. Not bad.

BTW, the rebate is thru Dynomax, so you can buy it thru Summit, Jegs, or anywhere else selling Dynomax stuff.

I forgot to mention. For you 86 to 92 owners, it's 40 bucks cheaper, so your total price after rebate will be $83.98 shipped. Beat that!

One is a 2.25" and the cheaper one is a 2.5". The cheaper one doesn't have the blingy stainless tip either. If you rock crawl, it will get bashed coming off obstacles. I did the 17463 kit with a 15042 2.5" cat, and a 93-96 Borla header with the 2.25" outlet.

Summit has cheaper pricing on it too. 99.95 and 139.95.

I bought it a couple months ago. I am thinking of upgrading though. Its not the sound I was hoping for

Let us know how it sounds when you get it on. I have been cosidering this system for a while now and also saw the rebate. I am mostly worried about the exhaust droning in the cab. It would be nice to get some growl when speeding up, but cant stand exhausts that drone on the freeway.

Does anyone know what makes the 86-92 systems not fit the later cherokees? Seems like it would be pretty minor to make it fit, and the price is quite a bit cheeper than the 93+ systems.

This is a big deal for me too. I HATE drone. How does this Dynomax compare for the Flowmaster 50 series?

0 drone with my dynomax kit. ive got the 92 version, everything fit 100%. no fancy tip, just an oval shape to the end of the exhaust. like someone already said a nice tip will just get beat up anyways.

the acceleration tone is real nice also, and once again, 0 drone.

Could you post any pics of the tip?

Been too busy to install the exhaust, so no results yet. We've had a mini heat wave recently in SoCal, and was busy dialing in the AC system. Here are some pics of the tip. It's more of a stainless look than chrome. Not too blingly IMO.

Does anyone know why the earlier version doesn't fit the 93+ Cherokees?

Would save me $30 if its something really simple, like a hanger or something like that. Considering how similar the bodies are, I can't imagine the pipe being shaped too much differently.

Good to hear there is no drone. I really wanna pick one of these up. That is a good looking tip and would probably be okay for me, since I don't play in the rocks. Its 95% DD and 5% trail rider.

What year XJ did you put the system on?

Thanks.

Please post once you get it on. I'm very curious where the tip comes out. I know the borla system I installed on my old '88 came out right under the shackle, so when my buddy installed lift shackles the tip had to be cut and repositioned. I'm getting inch-itis and have some shackles sitting in my tool box so I want and exhaust I don't have to modify if I install them.
