Homemade steering?

Here is my idea:
cut two lengths of steel
drill and tap the ends for TREs
drill a whole for the drag link connection (very much like the factory setup)

Would this work? I was thinking this would allow me to replace the TRE on the draglink instead of the whole draglink. I did some searching but didn't see this mentioned. Thanks in advance!

Look at JCRs setup.

If you're going to go that far then make a new tie rod and drag link. Make sure though that you use either 1/4" wall or solid stock. I have also seen passenger side TRE's that are longer and incorporate the hole for the drag link in them.
