hey guys i just got a 1997 cherokee sport with the straight six. it has 110,000 miles on it and i drove it home just fine but when i run it for a long time it makes a really faint ticking sound. but one day i was out on the trail in four low bairly moving at all and the oil pressure dropped down to zero. so i turned around as soon as i could and on the drive home when the RPMs got up to 2,000 it would sound like a desel truck. the oil was changed 2,000 miles ago and it still looks great. what could it be?

Oil pump failure....

Engine rebuild time....

I am not sure on the newer engines, but with the older engines oil pumps are known for failing at around 100,000-125,000 Miles. Replace it with a new High volume pump from Mopar and you shouldn't have that problem again....
