I would love to see a venue offer an XJ class. Sort of like Jeepspeed for Desert racing. It keeps interest up in XJ's.

Craig, since this series appears to caters to the "run what you brung" crowd, there are alot of well equipped XJ's around with skilled drivers that would make this a lot of fun. Keep things simple, keep the fee's affordable and you'll get folks out from the XJ crowd that want to compete with their daily drivers/weekend wheeler level rigs.

For those that don't know, Craig Stump is the guy that started UROC (United Rockcrawling & Offroad Challenge) series several years ago. It's someone elses baby now and Craig is working on this more "grass roots" series for the average folks that want to compete, but don't have deep pockets or big sponsor $$.

Looks fun......

Never mind, I saw that it's rock racing.
Personally, I'd rather see someone get back to real grass roots wheeling and have rock crawling competitions.

Yes this is rock racing. It seems that the public and competitors have lost interest in rock crawling competitions. I compete in several rock crawls a year and even I am losing interest in them. Winrock is simply timed rock crawling with a twist. The twist is that the main event is head to head, two vehicles on a specially designed course. The courses are designed to not damage your vehicle and give plenty of room for two vehicles in the passing sections.

seriously, though....i am with terry on this one. i prefer rock crawling....the racing does nothing for me.

as for your original question....if i wanted to compete, i would prefer to compete against different vehicles...not just XJ's

From a spectators point of view...I would much rather watch something happen fast rather then slow.

Rock crawling as a sport was fun for the first couple of years, then it did indeed get boring. You can only watch so many rigs "slowly" try the same obstical before you lose interest.

I think this is where the "sport" and "hobby" have gone their seperate ways. If you are going to make money by bringing in spectators you have to keep their interest up. For me the love of going out and crawling over rocks as a hobby will never go away.

I wouldn't ever compete in a rock-racing event but I damn sure would rather watch one. Especially if it involved XJ's
