TO the computer guys,
I REALLY need to password protect my thumbdrive.
Anybody ever do this?

Nope, but I'm sure there's software out there to do it. you could try formatting it with NTFS and setting up security permissions on it....

Most of the thumb drives come with protection already installed on them, unless your erase it, it's called encryption. My cruizer micro has it but thats because I never removed it.

Another option:

I've used it on a section of my external hard drive, but you can use it on anything you want. It can be used to encrypt sections of drives, entire drives, certain files, whatever you want. It's overkill for most people, heck, it's even overkill for me, but it works! Plus it helps that it's free.

I've been racking my brains to think of TrueCrypt all weekend.
Probably the best bet. And if it's the one I've been trying to think of, not only is it encrypted, unless you've got the TrueCrypt driver loaded, the partition isn't even visible.

That would be nice if I only used this thumbdrive on my own comps. I need to use it for work and I've got things on there like SSNs and the like.

LOL in addition to the legitimate items needing secured there may or may not be photos of scantily clad women on there :D

Now if you were using a real operating system like linux or unix you could simply use the built in crypt command :D :D :D Uses the same algorithm on all of them, same as the password one does.
