I've been wheeling and beating the dog crap out of my stock gas skid for 12 years or more, they hold up pretty well.

Stock gas tank skids are great... there cheap, and if you can weld or know someone who will weld for you, you can add "reinforcement" peices of steel to it. After you do that it should hold up to just about anything.

As far as I know a post 96 to a pre 97 is direct bolt on. Now a pre 97 to a post 96 requires a bit of cutting as seen here.
