Every NWFest pre-event forum has had at least one of these. Since the event itself isn't that far off, I figured I'd start this year's. The question is, what do you have to do to get ready?

I need to:

Get new rear leafs.
Do some final fab work on the exo.
Exhaust manifold.
New front seats.
THOR install.

And I'm sure a bunch else. So...what do you have to do before late June?

rework the bumpstops.

No, you must build a new XJ that is as good or better on the trail as your YJ. You may begin now.:wave1:

Well my list is short(yea, right)
Install clucth master cylinder, headers/exhaust system and the new brakelines I just got, go thru and check/tighten the bolts on the things I just replaced, I.E. EVERYTHING from front grill to back bumper, install the new drive shafts and break in new motor/transmission/transfer and both axles. Then all i need to do is ship it across the pacific to my new house in Oregon and get settled in. Install lockers and recheck everything again.
I "SHOULD" make it to this one.

Realistically...

- Find a full size spare
- Find a way to secure the cargo area
- Swap in a bigger fuel tank (10gal isn't going to cut it)
- Do a coolant flush and burp the system

Perfect World...
- Build a rear bumper and cut the quarters

Nothing to extensive. I should be able to get everything done in time.

Well what the heck, I have a few things on my list, so I'll bring this back to life. It's all small stuff, but a long list. The beauty of my first car that I actually car about/is officially mine, and having it be 19years old from idiot owners who dont know how to put back the bolts after they take them off! (Litterally like 50 bolts missing from body parts and a few engine parts)

Things I'm getting in the next week/installing:
-All new hoses
-New Oxygen sensor
-New wiper blades/fixtures
-Fix the windows from sticking (all but the drivers need to be pulled up)
-Replace the oil filter and change the oil
-Drain and replace the Tranny, Diferential, and Radiator fluids
-New coolent reservor
-New Alternator
-Buy and install a CB radio
-Fix the winshield wiper motor (speed doesnt go up, at all)
-Check all the grounds
-New speakers (Some decent Kicker speakers on the way)
-New Dynomax exhaust and welding to new Catylic converter
-Replace the EGR valve hoses

Possibly do/hope to do by NWfest:
-Get a 3" lift from Rough Country
-RC Diff. guard
-RC steering stablizer
-Set of BFG Mud Terrains
-Black Steelies
-Tow points
-Rock sliders

Just finished today:
-new Catylic converter
-new EGR valve
-new Air Filter
-all new lights
-new rear hatch hitches
-rear windshield wiper unit
-adding a full tool box and another tool box with a tow strap, gloves, ect.

I highly suggest buying a undercoating sprayer. I just put down a gallon of dupli color in less then 10 minutes!! came out real nice and even and there was no mess to deal with. got my gun from eBay, less then $30 shipped I beleive.

Im haveing some set backs myself. Put on the new SS braided clutch line and did a bunch of things. Go to start it and just clicking, smell something and think it is the starter motor giving up. Crawl under there and its not hot? crank the motor crossing the terminals on the back of the motor and smell the burning smell again, look over and FIRE!!!! the ground wasnt doing well at all so all the current was going thru the clutch hose :( $50 cluctch hose down the drain.

Now the grounds are all set and good, still need to have drive shafts made and a couple other small things, like SHIPPING IT ACROSS THE OCEAN. not looking good at this point.

I figure I'll probably go bigger in a year anyways.

I have a pair of RE 3.5" front springs and a set of dakota rear springs that I will be looking to sell at or shorty after NWfest. This set-up has worked great for me, just ask around. (980 on a 20* RTI)

Put your money toward tow hooks since they are required and a Transfer Case skid plate. (nothing cuts in to your upgrade money then tearing your TC off.)

I will put your name on my springs and I am very negotiable on price ;) Talk to me at NWfeast :D

Plus nothing worse then putting on a lift the weekend before an event, guaranteed it will take quite a bit of tweaking before your jeep would be fully ready to wheel. It is the small stuff that will get you everytime.

June 17th, 2008, 08:19
I've actually come up with a couple of items in the last week or so:

Re-do track bar attach bracket. The fix I did three months ago is sloppy again. This time, after I plate and match drill the hole, I'm going to lay a couple of tack beads on the bolts once it's tightened. That should add support right on the end of the leverage, but allow me to grind them off in the event I need to remove it.

"Adjust" steering stops by welding a couple small pieces of stock or nuts onto either the factory stud or the corresponding area where it hits on the axle tube/knuckle. My MTRs ride my LCAs a bit at full lock as is, my SSRs have bigger lugs and will hit worse.

This will all be tackled next week.

Nah I don't want the stock ones. Since they are self tapping. I am going to get some actual bolts and nuts so that I can take my front bushwackers off when I go wheeling.

I used to use the stock bolts with nuts on the back side, worked great.

I couldn't, well, not me, the people at Fasteners couldn't find a nut to fit the self tapping screws.... Maybe I will try that again...

Is there a way to remove the rear ones and still be able to attach them afterwards? I tried thinking of a way but couldn't come up with one.

If you welded the nuts to the back side of the fender you could just un due them from the outside.
If you don't have the ability to weld, you could "cold weld them" that would probably work if you preped the area good enough.
If you were to do this, I would recommend putting additional support under the nuts (either large washers or better yet a strip of steel with the nuts attached on the back.

My last update (I won't be working on the Jeep anymore before NW Fest).

Here is my list of expected mods prior to NW Fest for the XJ:
1. Build Rear tube fenders and light guards (Done)
2. Install all new Heims in Steering (Done)
3. Mount and Install H1 Double Beadlocks (Done)
4. New bellypan and Engine/Tranny skids (Done)
5. Install 2Low kit (won't be done for NW Fest)
6. Finish building and wire folding light mount for Exo Cage (Installed but not wired yet)

Other:
1. Install CB in tow rig (decided not to do this yet, won't really need it for NW Fest anyway)

Quater turn fastners(like what racecars use on body panels), or riv nuts, and remove them before hitting the trail.

That's looking pretty good Eli! Can you post up a bigger picture of your grooved tire? I want to see how you did yours. Are they regular TSL's?

I'm really envious of you guys. I wish I could go

You can ride with me, Jeremy. Sounds like you've got more issues going than just the XJ not being ready though, so it's all good.

PM me if you want to ride over and hit the trails with me. I'm leaving early Friday morning.

Thanks, Its getting there.

Here's a thread I did on the tires a while ago, they are the same way now. Seems to work well, plus it gives you 3 center lugs, instead of 2(If you cut them in the middle). http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=929503

They are regular bias ply TSL's. If they make an SX in a 33x12.50x15, Id run them instead. These are plenty strong anyways.

Like everyone's said, catch a ride homie.

Doesn't suck actually. Making $15 and hour and working 90 hours a week is really nice. Especially the 50 hours of OT!! More money for wheeling! :D Safety is number one!
