We've been in Colorado for a year now. I have been looking to do a very large Asian tattoo that will encompass a large portion of the upper body for years now. I had an artist in St. Louis but because of the distance and size of the art...it's not real practical to go back home for the work. I have checked out quite a few shops and portfolios in Colorado Springs and not been able to find anyone that has a style that works with my design idears nor a resume that can support a pretty big commitment. I met a few people at Red Rocks that had good artwork from Denver artists but we haven't been able to get up that way to meet them and see more samples. I'd like to know if you know of any good artists or shops in the Denver area that are worth checking out? I know I can look in the phone book but that's not really what I'm asking. I'm not looking to head to Denver and find any shop in a drunken stuper to get the typical Western one off piece done. Artists that specialize in Asian art and suits would be very appreciated. Thanks.

Jeff Kopp at the Th' Ink Tank tattoo does awesome work. (720) 932-0124
I've got about 30hrs worth of work on a 1/2 sleeve with him. He is kinda pricey and there may be a 5-6 month waite, but he's worth it.

Hey Chirs...

I'll second Th' Ink Tank's work. Also, another shop you might look at is Celebrity Tats in LAKEWOOD. There is another shop downtown by my office but there are better artists at the Bakewood.. err, Lakewood location.

Thanks guys...I appreciate it. Frankenstang...is your 1/2 sleeve Asian art?

I'm guessing that Th' Ink Tank and the other one are both in the Denver area? Sorry...I've only been up that way a handful of times.

There are often threads on CO4x4 about tats...I'll also check with my supervisor and see where she gets her work done. I won't have that answer 'til Sunday though.

Hey River. A friend of mine had a very large samuri/dragon piece done on the left side of his body. (He has a lot of other work too) He had it done at Holly Rollers here in town. I forgot his name but could get it if you are interested. I had him add some stuff to a tat I have. Did real good work and fixed some stuff that wasn't done right in the first place. He works all free hand. Let me know if you want more info.

Thanks Kevin,

If you could get a name, I would appreciate it. Most of the artists I have checked out in Springs have portfolios that don't appear to be very well-rounded. They were great with grafiti designs but that doesn't really fit my ideas.

I will be in touch. He might not be what you are looking for. I understand you want expertise. It was a big piece though and my friend wanted it for a while. They sat down together and he was very happy with the results. I'll get more info. Later

River - you'd have to go to Lakewood for it, but she gets her art done by Fritz at Alternative Arts 303.972.7797...looks pretty good from this layman's point of view.
