Without getting into why, does anybody know if the factory seat studs can be removed? Are they just screwed in?

You can unscrew them, they are just studs. I unscrewed mine to put in some 96 seats in the 88.

in my '90 they werent studs they were bolts - I unbolted the seat moved it back 6 inches and drilled hols and but the bolts back in and nuts on the underside of the jeep. I'm a bigger guy and there just wasnt enough room between the steering wheel and the seat for me.
