We just got blasted. I was working about 13 miles away from the house in Purcellville, Va. when the darkest clouds I've seen rolled in...

Left the job, and ran into a WALL of water and 70 mph winds....
It was literally raining sideways. I sat thru a light with about 5 car lengths between me and the guy in front of me, lest if a tree fell over, I could get out of it's way.... too bad the guy behind me wasn't thinking likewise...

Got onto my little road , trying to get to my house to tend to the horses that were out in this gust, and came around a corner only to discover a tree with the girth of half of the Comanche fell across the road. At this point I'm still about a half mile from my driveway, so I'm at the mercy of the sole chainsaw in attendance. All I could do was stack the wood that was being cut....

Drive on another quarter of a mile and run into another felled tree and a guy working on it from the far side. Walked to my house and fetched the chainsaw and brought the tractor down to the tree. I commenced to saw, as did two more arrivals and just a little over three hours from the time I arrived, we had the road cleared.
I got three heaping loader buckets full of wood for this winter....a headstart.

Power was just restored about a half hour ago, after being off for around 5 hours.

All the fences are still standing, and the horses are all upright.

What brought this on? I wasn't aware of any hurricanes on the loose heading up the east coast.
