Does a 96 XJ 4.0 have a knock sensor? because my TC bolts were loose and making a knocking noise...wondering if the knock sensor was pulling timing

There should not be - it was deleted for 1991. AFAIK, only RENIX (1987-1990) has a knock sensor. (I could be wrong - and it wouldn't be the first time...)

I think that was only a Renix thing. The last year was probably 91 for the knock sensor and the XJ.
