I just replaced my D35 with a D44. I went to put my tires back on and the wheel lugs are .5" shorter on the 44 than the 35. I measured from drum to end of lug bolt - the 35 was 1" and the 44 was .5". Is this unusual? Do I need to replace the lug bolts?

I have a 90 XJ Laredo.

as long as you got 1/2 inch thread into the lug you should be fine.

If it is only .5" from the drum, you don't have enough thread. But that is bizarre, because it sounds like there would never be enough thread with that length. Maybe the dude you bought it from put some hokey studs in there?

If you are going to have to replace the studs you want to shoot for 1.5 * d engagement (i.e. 1.5 * .5" = .75").

I would replace them with longer studs.. This way if you have a few back out on a long haul you won't watch your tire pass you on the road..
