Anybody got a non abrasive method of cleaning 100+ years of black off of brass furniture handles, somewhat intricate so I don't want to use abrasive methods though I may throw one in the tumbler with the walnut shells that I use for my ammo and see how that turns out. Got 1 dozen to do and one took me over an hour with some brasso and cloth though that would let me catch up on all the DVD's I've picked up..

What about one of those mats that you submurge in water and then set the stuff on it. I use to see them advertised on TV. Turns it shiney in just a few minutes.

Remember those thingys?

Nevr Dull. Good stuff, used it in the Marine Corps. But very similar to Brasso wads.

Brasso has always worked well for me on brass beds and bar rails; but you're right, that takes a while.

Tabasco. It works great! I watched a Sailor on ship use it for the brass rails going up to the bridge. It amazed me!

Cheap toothpaste, and a toothbrush. Used to use it on uniform brass - I'm surprised you didn't.

X2 on the tooth paste that is what I use on my uni brass. I put it on a piece of old t-shirt and rub away. Gets it nice and shinny then I use Liquid Glass (http://www.qualitytruck.com/lgqrt.jpg) to seal the shine, its some tough stuff. I shined my 4 mo ago and still looks like I did yesterday.

These piece are BLACK and alot of oxydation needs to be removed, they have been in the polisher for over an hour now, no change cept the black is more shiny now :( Going to try vinegar and salt and if that does not work I'll try the old standby of bug juice overnite soaking.

Try some NOXON 7 metal polish. It's not a wipe on wipe off deal but less work than anything else I've tried. I'm using it right now on a brass gas light fixture that is black.

Rich, I pick up brass from the range that's black like you have. I use 1/2 walnut media and 1/2 treated corncob from Lyman and overnight it looks brand spanking new. Tear a dryer sheet into 1" squares and toss those in too, it helps keep the dust down.

FWIW I've also heard of people using koolaid on brass.

8 hours in the tumbler did not even start to clean it, I made a mix of white vinegar and a teaspoon of salt, let them soak for the last day or so, cleaned off all the oxide and left it a pinkish color, just finished the brasso which turned it back to a brass color, going to clearcoat them next. I'm also in the process of cleaning and repainting the mirrors on all the TJ's, thats a pretty crappy powdercoat they put on there if thats what it is, it came off in big pieces with a screwdriver. Four done, two to go... Going to clear coat them over the black krylon rust tough I used with krylon clear coat.

The Koolaid is so so, the real one to use is real US Government concentrated bug juice, the kind that makes a gallon with two table spoons, the consumer Koolaid is weak compared to that... I was not about to break open an MRE just for the bug juice..

I've never had a bad pasta one. Well at least the ones with actual "spaghetti" sauce. The Canadians have some pretty good ones too. We were trading with them while we were in Afghanistan. They loved ours, we loved theirs. Guess its just the desire for different. But theirs came with actual bread, they had Swedish meatballs in a white wine sauce, canelloni. all kinds of crazy "gourmet" type stuff. Modern day MREs are pretty good.
