I hear talk my county will begin emissions testing soon which has me worrying, I've got a 90 XJ 4.0, AX-15 that's basically stock engine wise except for a K&N Filter and a glaspack w/a turndown in front of the rear diff. For the past few years I've noticed the inside of the tailpipe looking sooty but since I put the glaspack I've noticed alot of soot/carbon on the undercarriage of the Jeep from the exhaust, I've also noticed a steady dip in gas mileage and a mild amount of soot on the spark plugs yet the plugs have indications of running lean as well. The gas mileage will atleast double on the highway from 50-60miles to a quarter tank of gas to 120+ miles to a quarter tank.
I've put in new plugs, Mopar wires, and a new fuel filter. The truck just hit 200k yesterday and it still has alot of power but sometimes it feels like it's lost alot of power. I don't know if it's related or not but it takes longer to start the motor now, it used to be 2-3 seconds but lately it's been 5-6.
So what could be the problem here? Bad CAT, 02 sensor, injectors? I looked @ the CAT when I had the exhaust apart and it didn't look that bad but not brand new either.
