View Full Version : Can't UPS ship a radiator without damage?

Okay this is obviously a rant. I ordered a CSF 3 core all metal radiator from radiatorbarn.com, and had it the next day since it's drop shipped from CSF in Rialto, California to Torrance, California which is about 60 miles. Great, except that UPS had put a pencil sized hole in the box.

It had crushed one of the tubes, and flattened out some of the fins near it. I contemplated using it, but quickly realized that nobody should spend $170 on a new radiator with a crushed tube that could possibly leak.

Okay, no big deal. So 10 days later after UPS inspection, sending it back to CSF, crediting back radiator.com, guess what shows up today on final delivery....

Damaged. ......again

For %#@^# sake, it's only 60 miles, UPS!

All of this while my XJ is down with me wondering if the cylinders are gonna rust from the flushing I just after ordering the first one 10 days ago.

I'm ready to throw in the towel, ask for a refund, and get one locally .... I mean "real" locally.

Thanks for lending a ear. back to my

I disagree. I work at a research lab and we do a lot of ordering of glassware from a company (Fisher Scientific) that cant pack boxes to save their lifes. UPS isnt perfect, but they are prety close to having a perfect record for delivering our orders in good shape. In my expierence, if you want it sooner use UPS, if you want it to wait around at a warehouse for a couple days, use FedEx. I have no opinion of DHL.

You must have a driver with butter fingers when he loads the truck.

Just go pick it up? It'll be worth the hassle..

FedEx > UPS > DHL..

DHL has lost every shipment I've ever had go through them. Some were lost for a day, some a week... Not cheap stuff too, laptops, monitors etc... Though I just ordered a GPS unit for my dad, and it arrived on the first try (from DHL) but that is a first...

EXACT SAME PROBLEM.

alright i ordered CSF all metal from radiatorbarn.com... and sure enough the top part where the cap screws in is bent in and has a flat side.

used an exhaust expander to get it back out and then it worked, i was lucky.

You ought to see them by the time they get to VA!

I have had the same issues with radiatorbarn, I now specify that they add more packaging material, and I will not accept it from UPS unless it is in good condition. I have my rads shipped to my work so that I can inspect them when the are recieved.

When you do get a un-damaged rad from them you will not be disatisfied with it.

The very first job I ever had, the company used DHL to ship our paychecks from the corporate office in VA down to the stores in our area. 9 times out of 10, our pay checks always wound up in a different state somewhere in the midwest.

I use FedEX whenever possible.

Thanks guys. All I can do is wait and see what radiatorbarn can do tomorrow morning after they open.

After calling UPS cust svc, I realize they don't give a 5h!t and will keep paying out damaged package claims like it was nothing. What a waste.

I would drive to CSF, but 60 miles is a long ways in SoCal. It could take hours, and it was free shipping. Although not so free anymore because of the down time.

Hey Grimm, happy birthday man. I'm more of a lurker than a poster and keep pretty quiet but been around since 2005, years before I bought my rig. Some of my favorite reading is in the socal forums, so I kinda know what's going on there. I usually get my NAPA parts from the one on Carson, but glad to know another connection nearby.

Hey, after I had a similar problem, I called back and they told me that if I elected to, I could drive to the closest authorized radiatorbarn distributor which was about 30 miles away and pick it up. I just had to take the email reciept and the purchasing credit card for verification. Once I got there, the dude even installed it for me for free. =)

Well, I just called radiatorbarn.com and asked where the nearest distributor authorized distributor is. They said CSF in Rialto. Back to square one.

But hey, thanks Rambo, I do appreciate the offer to railroad it.

I cancelled my order with radiatorbarn since I had enough and wanted it to go in this weekend. I'm gonna call around the parts stores today to see what's available.

Thats an average price from what I have seen around. dirt cheap would be under 100 for a good one
