How many cylinders are you running on?
I've got five XJ's with AMC242 engines (six cylinder each,) for 30 to start.
There's a spare RENIX AMC242 engine (compleat) in the garage - six more (36.)
I've got four B&S lawnmower engines (odd thing to collect, but there you go...) from 3.5-6.5HP, all verticals. (40.)
There's also a Tecumseh lawnmower engine, running 4HP (41.)
Why ask this? Because I was cleaning out alongside the garage, and I got to "thinking" (if you want to call it that...) and I just kind of added it all up and started wondering. I've got no active lawnmowers - we've got a kid across the street who could use the money, and I've gotten tired of mowing lawns in rental houses anyhow.
So, I'm running on 41 cylinders - how about anyone else? Only count complete engines - must have the short block and cylinder head at the very least...

My wife and I've been doing a good deal of outdoor work, so here's the total at the moment:
2 XJ's, that's 12
her Volvo for another 4
my Chevy truck adds another 8
KutKwick lawnmower one big one
Jacobsen Reel mower with one
a brush cutter with one
two weed trimmers with one each
a pressure washer with one
roto tiller with one
a small generator with one
three working chain saws, one each
Kubota B5 Excavator, 4
John Deere 450C dozer, 4
Ford NAA tractor, 4
Ford 1500 tractor, 3
Two Mercedes diesels, plus two for parts, but only one registered, so I'll only count 4 out of the 17.
I'm not counting non-working, spares, etc. I have a few old mowers, including a three-gang Locke, a pretty good stock of spare Wisconsin and large Briggs engines, and at last count something in the vicinity of 11 extra chain saws in states ranging from needs a little TLC to basket. Probably half a dozen weed trimmers in a similar state of limbo too. I also have, waiting for attention, a couple of VW engines, including a 1953 stale-air beetle engine complete on a pallet. Oh yea, there's a BMW motorcycle lurking somewhere deep in the barn too, but it hasn't been run for close to 20 years. It's ripening.
I may have missed a couple, but that's about 54 that I could or would right now be able to push the button, turn the key, or pull the rope, and use.

Uh-oh. I just realize I forgot boat motors. For actual working ones, we'd better add 5 (two twins and a single) to the original 54. And of course a couple extras in the barn that aren't counted. So, 59 looks pretty close.
So the next stage in this would be to try to tally up the total horsepower. Imagine starting them all up at once, and figure out how many HP/kilowatts or whatever you're generating. Those of us whose stable is poor in automotive power and high on the industrial and small engine scale will not do so well on this. I come up with a rough estimate of only about 1061, for a little under 18 horsepower per cylinder on average, despite the automotive engines' output of 30 or 40 horses per cylinder. The Deere with its 3.6 liter turbodiesel only puts out half of that, and the old Ford tractor a measly 7.25, not much more per cylinder than a big chain saw.
So I'm way behind some of you guys with lots of road machinery. I'd need a whole lot more old chainsaws to catch up!

Now, this isn't intended to gage anyone - I guess it more shows who's got a compulsion for collecting things that run on gasoline/Diesel than anything else (like me with B&S & Tecumseh engines...)
As far as Wankels, I suppose you'd count each rotor chamber as one cylinder. So, if you've got an RX-7 with two rotary chambers, it's two cylinders. A little sticky to handle it that way, but it's the best compromise I can come up with ...
I've not met a Wankel that didn't have three combustion chambers per chamber, but that doesn't mean it's not out there. After, all, I haven't met an inline eight-cylinder engine, but they're about, aren't they?

Geez - be that way! Take a perfectly fun little thread and start adding math...
Total Displacement - (roughly) 1497 cubic inches/~24.54L
Total BHP? No idea - that would take more looking around than I'd care to do, and I'd prefer to measure it in torque anyhow.
