Ok, so in the never ending search for a HP d44, I drove to a junk yard in Petersburg, VA, one that's part of the Circle Auto Group (search on yahoo for Chesterfield Auto Parts and the places are on there) and to much surprise, there are about 8 Crown Vic's or similar with rear disc's that have been untouched. I just snagged a set of 1991 Lincoln Town Car rear discs to include rotors, backing plates, calipers, pads, and e-brake cables with working e-brakes for a whopping $62 bucks. SOOOO, for all you crazy fools who love your XJ d44's, there are pretty much bolt on discs there for $62....figured I'd pass it on!

Sweet deal Nick. I think I just figured out what I'm doing next Saturday. I'll be hitting Yahoo in the morning and ringing the phones on Monday.
Any luck on the D44? It doesn't appear so or I'm sure the thread would have had a different title.

yeah, rich, there wasn't anything ford that was 4wd, not to mention the right years. sooo...no luck yet. i think this next weekend i'm headed up to brandywine, md to check out their yard. we were flying over it the other day and i copied down the number, so i'm headed there to look. i forgot to mention that i cannot gurauntee that the town car's backing plates will fit, but from a few comparisons, they appear to be able to. so far, i think the town car, grand marquies, and crown vic all share the same backing plate pattern, but i'm not positive. like i said, they just appear to. i'll let you know when i have them on my axle if they fit or not.

No fair doing that overhead recon while on duty... (I'm just jealous 'cus I don't get to do anyhting fun at work).
I figure there may be some differences in the backing plates but they shouldn't be too much to overcome (famous last words). Besides, I'm in no big hurry, I just want to try to get my winter projects all lined up and paid for before the weather turns cold.

If you go north to Baltimore, I've had good luck at the Crazy Ray's yards. Good prices, sometime the selection is kind of picked over.

well, considering that all the axles that were polled today (yes, i did take a poll and they all voted in favor of the 8.8) were 8.8 ford rear ends or so says the tags. that leads me to believe that they all have the same backing plate pattern, especially if it would have cost them more to make a special pattern for each vehicle. i donno....but i got a freakin deal and the pads and rotors are almost unused! what a freakin blast!

i don't know if i'll be headed up to baltimore, but i might if they can score me that axle. that's quite a haul to go up there and not find anything, ya know?
P.s. Rich!! there's a gun show this weekend at the expo center in F-burg! i forgot to mention that earlier, sorry....anyways, its a decent one, kinda vendorless, but they had quite a few good deals.

Just got done doing the same thing on my 44. Got mine for 42 bux!!! of course I'm anal and bought new pads, rotors, and calipers.
Never got a chance to get out to the yards this weekend, got called in at work and have to go back today.
However I think I have a bead on a HP44 for ya. I just have to check with a few people.
Definately worth buying the rubicon backing plates for the axles too!!!!!

Too bad getting the old lady set up in her own place has wiped me out. I only have money left for one hobby and since I get more use out of the Jeep than the guns, they'll have to wait 'til the divorce is final and the dust has settled. Just have to find time to shoot what I've got for now.

i know how that feels....
it wouldn't happen to have the welded mounts on the d44 does it? Yeah, i live next door to the jeep steelership and I plan on using those backing plates. But other than that, everything bolted up? How'd you do the e-brake cables? Did you even hook them up?

I got some good ideas from a few other members. I'm looking at using passenger side e-brake lines from a YJ. Might use a chain link welded on the end or a clip from the original e brake lines from the 8.8.
Still have to get it installed on my jeep.

That's the junkyard I keep telling you guys about, and it's literally 15 minutes from my house.
I was gonna pull a set of CV discs out of there for my 44, but a ZJ showed up in there about 3 weeks ago, with a D44, with discs:) I liberated the whole setup except for the rotors and parking brake pads, which were shot. $23 for the whole sheeebang....
