well, i had a shop install my gears for me and when i did the 500 mile break in oil change i noticed some wear on a couple gear teeth.
look at the top indentation along the gears profile, u will notice.
Is this normal in the cutt? or did they throw some used gears in my axle.

hmmmmm......
I will state that i did the normal inntial break in for the gears, so that i wouldnt get ringburn.

Nope they forgot to put the cross pin before they put it back together.
They used a grinder on the ring gear to get clearance to get it in.
Also I think the pinions to deep and not making full contact.

let me guess 8.25 axle with 4.56 gears?

lovely.
Will this cause any problems in the future?
I just paid a good amount of money to get these done.

oh yeah your guess was correct.
8.25 4.56

it requires to gring a little off the ring gear on a 8.25 with 4.56 gears, ot else you wouldnt beable to get the c clips in

Ok then the pinions too deep then is the only thing I see, theres no contact on the inside of the gear. The inside tips show no wear.

langer.
The ratio before was 3.55
to install 4.56 would it need a different carrier?
Overall is this a shitty install?

i just want to have enough ammo before i go back to the shop knowing that something is wrong.

There is no carrier break for the 8.25. The install isn't shitty its just that the contact could be better.

should i say anything to them?
If this is a problem just waiting to happen on the trail because of unacceptable contact with the gears i would definately like to say something.
when is it normal ok to shave off some of the teeth to get the pin in? That just weakens the ring on those three teeth.

when you install 4.56 gears in a 8.25, tell me how else are you gonna get the c clips in? everyone on this bored that gots a 8.25 with 4.56 gears had to shave the teeth to get the cross pin back in

Sorry.
I was not aware of that.
Are there many other rears that u have to do this sort of shaving to get the pin in?

My last question.
Should i take it back so they can do a better job of getting better contact?

Well its pretty much a moot point, because you already did the break in so adjusting at this point, especially by a shop that couldn't get it right the first time, would probably result in noise or other unwanted effects.

I've seen worse, there are also pins with a flat spot so you don't need to grind the teeth.

Not necessarily. 4.56s in an 8.25 are known to be noisy, especially if you're starting with used gears.

Can you take some pictures of the backside of the teeth?
There are two patterns to be concerned with, drive side and coast side.

You have to grind the teetha little to get 4.56's into the 8.25. I would rather grind a little off a few teeth than get a pin with less material on it. If you every toss a lunch box in it you get a new round pin anyways, so you would have to grind the teeth then.
I have also heard that aftermarket gears in an 8.25 can be noisy. I know mine are, but the mud tires drown it out.

The flat is perpendicular to the retaining bolt, you have to turn it once it's in.
They work fine with a Lunch box

Yes it does look like the pinion is too deep.
Does anone have any definitions to acceptable contact patterns, pinion too shallow and pinion too deep? As far as what each will cause?
